The Saddest Bagpipes in the World - part four - Sourlies

In August 2014 I set out for Sourlies bothy, in deepest Knoydart, with my son, Schosti, and, of course, the Saddest Bagpipes in the World. This was a pilgrimage, completing a journey aborted 20 years earlier due to an oncoming blizzard; a journey I had promised Schosti since he was twenty minutes old. For five days we took in the magnificence of Knoydart, playing music (there was a bothy guitar), telling tales, and most of all, watching the ever-changing landscape. These are the tunes we brought back with us – our humble tribute to the Scottish Hills, or perhaps their gift to us.

This album is dedicated to Wee Martyn, king of the pipers, Rory the mountain-runner, and Jason, wild goat of a fiddler – long may the myths and the music live on…
