The over arching concept behind this song is about finding your own lane and trusting in it. It's about finding yourself and not conforming to the pressures around us. For me, my sound and musical identity has always been in between the soul music that I grew up on and the jazz that I have studied and grown to love. So I wrote this song to say, that it's okay to be a little different. We should embrace our uniqueness and follow through with it.

Wondem Remixed is a humble compilation of reworkings by some of my colleagues in Los Angeles and the UK. I asked musicians who were already interested or involved in my musical explorations or who lived in a parallel universe. In other words, I didn't force it on a who's who of "remixers" and as a result this body of work has a more organic and personal sense about it. The collection starts with a masterful reimagining by Brainfeeder beat maestro Ras G who has played a couple of shows with us. He took elements from the entire Wondem record and created an Afrikan Space Program classic. Producer and drummer Te'Amir Sweeney plays with the Wondem band and brought his sonic expertise with a crazy ambient remix of Saba. Emerging production collective Stomach Club, whom I met through my good friend and co-producer Carlos Niño one night in Venice, went all-in and vibey on the Somalian-inspired tune Xamar. Carlos himself provided a spirited soundscape featuring tracks from the entire record. International DJ and KCRW.com favorite Jeremy Sole took Lalibela to a new place with his awesome musicality and sensitivity. Prolific trumpeter, Ethio Cali bandleader and arranger Todd Simon did a sublime dub version of one of the more popular tunes on the record Sidet Eskemeche. The compilation is also blessed by an Al Dobson Jr. appearance. He completely flipped Mowa and I am grateful to him. Last but not least are two exceptional perspectives on Merkato Star and Eastern Prayer by our London-based homie Kutmah. 

I am very proud of this Wondem Remixed offering and hope you find some new inspiration for yourself in here.

Shika Shika - the record label without borders or owners - celebrates its first physical format release with ALBURA, the new album of Barrio Lindo, available as a 12” limited edition and in digital format on April 6th.
ALBURA is a portrait of the last three years of touring through Latin America, USA and Europe, that inspired this new phase in the work of Agustín Rivaldo, producer, luthier, and co- founder of Shika Shika Collective.
With its 12 tracks, ALBURA invites the listener to go on a deep and fresh journey into the contemporary sound of Latin American music, accompanied by organic electronica. In the midst of cumbias, sambas, carnavales and folkloric melodies, this record includes collaborations with indispensable referents of the new wave of South American producers who have crossed paths with Barrio Lindo: Jhon Montoya, Ela Minus, Lulacruza, Clara Trucco a.k.a. Wende Wen (Fémina/Weste) y Carrot Green.
This album merges the two universes that coexist in Agustín Rivaldo: the role of producer and the role of a luthier dedicated to traditional South American instruments. In fact, the name ALBURA is a botanical nod to the youngest part of the wood of a tree, and where the most recent growth rings of the trunk are found, at the same time a vital part for luthiers.
During the production process, Rivaldo recorded with instruments that he made himself: charangos, guitars, quenas and marimbas, among others. On the songs Pura danza, Saudade and Intensidad mañanera he uses his own singing voice.

Spanish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Guillermo Farré releases his third long player for Madrid based Lovemonk Records on May 12th. Inspired by his meetings and recordings with Tim Gane (Stereolab), Torres Blancas is a gorgeous slice of sun-soaked, haze-filled pop music with additional orchestral input from Sean O Hagan (Stereolab, The High Llamas) and effects and tape loops from lo-fi pop protege Maston.

Imagine the Beach Boys hosting a party with The Carpenters and Stereolab (think Dots and Loops) on the guest list. It's stiflingly hot and it's all taking place at David Hockney's ‘Hollywood Swimming Pool’. Torres Blancas is a throwback to a rose tinted era where vocal harmonies and wistful melodies collage and uplift. It profers a sense of achievement lyrically, and through its bold compositions and delicate washes of orchestral arrangements.

En esta ocasión el madrileño contó entre sus colaboradores con Sean O’Hagan (The High Llamas, Stereolab), que compuso los cinematográficos arreglos de cuerdas del álbum, y con el genio del lo-fi pop Frank Maston, que se encargó de los efectos y parte de la producción.

Torres blancas es, además del nuevo disco de Wild Honey, un icónico edificio de la corriente brutalista que se encuentra en el norte de Madrid. Durante muchos años Guillermo pasaba por delante sin apenas prestarle atención, pero con el tiempo la construcción se ha convertido en un símbolo de belleza y orgullo de la ciudad. El edificio, y su evolución con el paso del tiempo, resumen dos de los leitmotiv del disco: el cambio y la búsqueda de lo excepcional entre lo cotidiano.

Globally renowned for his vibrant, melodic sets and productions, Brasil's DJ Marky has been playing records for over a quarter of a century, making his debut at the tender age of twelve (yes, really). In the late 90's, Marky's fresh energy and eclectic influences provided a much-needed tonic for the UK's Drum & Bass scene; his sun-drenched crossover anthem 'LK' eventually entering the UK Top 20 in 2002. The intervening years have been spent spinning records all over the world to rapt audiences, as well as absorbing more and more wide- ranging global sounds to add to his distinctive style. Marky's long awaited debut album finally dropped in 2015, aptly titled 'My Heroes', reflecting this uncommonly humble artist's habit of constantly championing his favourite musicians and musical inspirations. With this unselfish spirit firmly in mind, we are proud to announce the release of 'Influences', a compilation album and DJ mix showcasing a selection of Marky's favourite music, created with a healthy disdain for genre-puritans and an emphasis on fun. 

Taking in traditional Brazilian music, disco, acid jazz, early house and of course a little Drum & Bass, 'Influences' is more of an invitation to a barbecue in the São Paulo sunshine than a chin-stroking 'back to mine' selection. Few artists display the ability (or the will) to transcend the genre in which they most thrive, but Marky is quickly establishing himself as a powerful tastemaker, perhaps even South America's answer to Gilles Peterson or Laurent Garnier. Fans will revel in the acid house and latin rhythms which provide much of the DNA of his Drum N Bass stylings, while casual listeners will simply discover a seamless music journey through a breathtaking number of eras and styles. A music-lover and fan first and foremost, Marky's infectious enthusiasm for his craft has never been more evident than on this very special record.
