Gospel blues meets neo-soul over a bouncy boom bap rhythm bristling with shining funk guitar licks, cheeky synths and an irresistible glockenspiel line that despite its positive groove is a bittersweet tale of a loss of faith. 

A man at the end of his tether searching for safety and redemption is the theme from the New York based, Trinidad & Tobago born singer John Skweird, and he bares his soul here with gusto. 

Not unlike Mark Ronson’s retro-soul experiments, ‘Better Place’ is both fresh and classic sounding, the timeless soul fire of John’s vocals meshing beautifully with Mr Bird’s modern funk chops.
