We’ve got yet another one of our event headliners stepping up to the mixtape series this week, this time its our Motorway Disco Headliners, the Mas Que Nada Brothers!

The boys have hosted events all over the UK including Glastonbury Festival, Ministry of Sound, Egg, The Cause, Colours Hoxton and The Prince Of Wales as well as having their own show on Select Radio every Tuesday.
 
Over the past year, they have thrown multiple sold out events and DJ'd alongside some of the biggest names in the field including Fat Tony, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez, Michael Gray, Melvo Baptiste and ATFC. Post lockdown has seen them host their yearly sold out boat party on London’s largest party boat.

We can’t wait to see what the boys cook up this Friday!

Good Custard Mixtape 036: Mas Que Nada Brothers

My special guests this week are a talented DJ duo from Down Under, Dinsdale and Kevlar. Hailing from the Blue Mountains in Australia, they run their own radio show called “The Park Street Social”, broadcasting every Sunday with a delicious vibe of funk, disco and house. They have a guest DJ every month, handpicked from DJ talent across the globe.

The lads also have a monthly podcast of “Homage” mixes, where they choose and artist and put together a mix featuring solely that artists tracks. They typically delve deep into each artist’s back catalogue, to tell the “story” ands history of each artist’s work. Podcasts so far have included Dave Lee, John Digweed and Audiojack to name but a few

They recently broadcast a very special show, an epic 8 hour extravaganza for an Aussie long weekend, featuring a lineup of DJs from across disco and house world, including myself, and the legend that is Carl Cox! Link to that mix is below:

As for the lads themselves, Dinsdale has been DJing for 25 years, starting his journey back in Leeds in the UK where he had a residency at an Acid Techno club called Templehead between 1996 and 2002. During this time, he also spent some time in Tokyo where he picked up another residency at The Underground. 

Kevlar is the other half of The Parke Street Social, and was the original driving force behind starting the radio show back in 2019, with the vision of Sunday nights filled with funk, soul, disco and house!

Wahine - Spin City Vol 215

The Black Light Disco Show returned to the myhouseradio.fm airwaves a with another tanker full of funkoleum injected disco juice to power your dance moves long into the night. 

For this show, our resident Goz was on hosting duties from his tree house console located deep within the BLD Towers arboretum (last time he hosted the show from there it took six of us and two whole days to find him!) 

Joining Goz this week we have a special guest from Eugene, Oregon in the US - the incredibly talented Rortron!  

Rortron’s (aka Rory Beck) interest in music began with thunderously percussive Metal (Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot), which then evolved into a taste for lyrical and catchy Hip-Hop (Gang Starr, Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang, and Hieroglyphics), finally arriving at the pulsating rhythm of Electronic music with the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Armin Van Buuren, and Odesza.

This varied background, coupled with the exposure to a multitude of live and recorded musical genres shaped him into the DJ/Producer he is today. Rortron has his own style with sets that illicit the deep, layered textures that combine a mixture of the old and new, familiar with exotic, catchy with contagious.  His passion to share a truly memorable experience with his audience drives him to continually improve and evolve.

As a strong supporter of Eugene’s independent musicians and artists, he is familiar with the efforts involved in a close-knit music scene. Originally a songwriter and emcee, he has made impromptu performances on various stages throughout Eugene. In fact, it was his original collaborations with friends that brought him to Eugene and their continued support which keeps him here.

Naturally, we’re delighted to have Rortron on the show to make his BLD debut and we know you’re gonna love what he has in store.
