Moravagine - Confusing Outside

DJ and producer Coffintexts delivers a fresh mix for Off-Kilter, trailing the haze of summer months with blissed out sonics. 

This mix introduces a new sound world crafted by the Miami DJ - a downtempo, deep and hallucinogenic take for the series. A portal into her murky underworld, blending elements of trip hop, dub techno and tripped out house.

Part Miami Bass, vintage house bounce, and tribal euphoria, Coffintexts' music is a cocktail of indulgence served straight from the queer underground.
When Coffintexts first burst onto the club scene in the late '10s, she was part of a new cohort of Miami producers reshaping dance music. Equally influenced by everything from 90s tribal rhythms to Latin American-inflected Club to UK rave, she emerged as part of the city's new guard. Putting out records on labels including Omnidisc, Club Romantico, Club QU, Classico, and a forthcoming record on TraTraTrax, she has quickly established herself as one of the Magic City's most vibrant musicians.

Even within this crowded field, Coffintexts acts as a unique center of gravity. While drawing from the percussive promiscuity of her Peruvian heritage and the bass weight of her hometown, she also gravitated towards the cerebral funk of '90s hardgroove, wiggly house, and the chromatic polish of UK techno. Cutting her teeth in house parties and gay clubs across Miami, she's always gravitated towards the minimal, groove-focused energy of dance music at its most muscular and hypnotic. This background has put her into conversation not just with the 305, but with the larger global queer dance music
cosmology.

There aren't many producers and DJs who marry the paranoid and the psychedelic, the euphoric and the illicit, the darkroom and the big room, the mind and the body, like Coffintexts.

As a producer, she's just as comfortable turning out lean and stripped back techno as she is sultry, bottom-heavy downtempo with occasional partner-in-crime Jonny from Space. Her DJing is just as adventurous. Her mixes for outlets like Crack and Mixmag showcase an ambitious and daring style where she jumps between tempos, eras, and genres without ever losing sight of that central current of hip-swinging groove. It's this intuitive and bodily approach to mixing that has kept dance floors from Miami to Shanghai to Bristol, from Nowadays to III Points Festival to Razzmatazz gyrating and sweating it out until
the early hours.

Thought as an hypnosis session inspired by the neurophysiology behind the mysteries of sleep stages and its transitions phenomena, the aim is to introduce the listener to an altered state of consciousness where sound frequencies are melted into brainwaves. Repetitive bass lines synchronize rhythmic slow activity, as during sleep-onset, able to induce a hypnagogic state. Higher tones overlap, mirroring the gamma band that evoke inner memories from deeper areas. As melodies and whisperings modulate your thoughts, REM-like architecture sculptures the imagery and the self vanishes. 

<<< You are now entering the “dysvreality”. Chords resonate echoes from a distant time: chaos imposed as order. A frenetic lullaby that has already alienated many, turns dreams into nightmares, forcing the subject to escape. Enchanting atmospheres are invaded by electroacoustic patterns seeking for awareness. Sound robot machines return a sense of control, followed by a dreamy space odyssey. Suddenly, a familiar street sound breaks the wake-sleep frontiers. You’ve listened to that before, in another life… Your life. Lucid dreams emerge by identifying this clue. Metal elements dive into an oneiric soundscape where fear and hope collide. Wandering voices interrupt lucidity, translating you to a confusional arousal. 

As you try to open your eyes, you notice with panic that you cannot move, cuddled by sub-bass and strings. Expecting to feel safe while paralyzed, horns and whistles warn you about destiny. In that moment, you realize that distant reality is, in fact, the present and time is running out. >>>

This set was recorded at “Vanishing Point”, a magical open-sky sleepover that took place in Madrid's surroundings in September 2025. So glad to be part of it, endless love to all people involved. Final cut is added as an epilogue, which I hope completes the story with a special bonus for this HOCast.

The Ghanaian-American DJ first established herself in the influential New York underground techno world and moved to Berlin in 2023. Akua’s sets are refreshing and inspire audiences to remember the true essence of techno. Enjoy!

There are few names as widely loved in clubland as Bristol-based producer Omar McCutcheon, AKA Batu.

His label Timedance, currently celebrating its ten-year anniversary, has been instrumental in shaping a certain corner of contemporary electronic music. It champions a mutant, rhythmic, UK-flavoured sound that escapes any obvious genre touchstones, as well as spotlighting the careers of artists like Verraco, Ploy and Hodge who push musical and cultural boundaries.

In this Exchange, McCutcheon sat down with Resident Advisor's editor, Gabriel Szatan, in London to reflect on the label's Afrofuturist philosophy, its journey over the past decade and the sense of purpose and direction that have developed over time. He spoke about the impact that scenes beyond the UK—such as China, South Africa, Brazil and Mexico—have had on his productions and label curation, and how they offer fresh perspectives that contrast with Europe's sometimes overly nostalgic take on dance music. He also discussed finding positivity in a dark time, and music's enduring potential to inspire and connect.

Peder Mannerfelt splits the difference between playful immediacy and daring experimentation. You’re as likely to find him premiering a live show at Berlin’s Atonal festival as pulling apart fabled techno meccas from Berghain to Fabric with synapse-frying precision. One minute he’s being asked to remix Björk, and the next he’s dropping EPs of non-conformist techno for Karenn’s Voam label. 

As a prolific collaborator throughout his career, Mannerfelt has veered from the orchestral tension of Roll The Dice (with Malcolm Pardon) to the anything-goes maximalism of Aasthma (with Pär Grindvik). As a producer, he’s worked on every one of Fever Ray’s acclaimed albums and live shows, as well as projects from alt music heavyweights such as Smerz, Blonde Redhead and Glasser. His Peder Mannerfelt Produktions label has become another outlet for his singular approach, presenting his work alongside similarly experimental operators like Sissel Wincent, Machine Woman, Klara Lewis and Hodge. 

More recently, his PM+ series celebrates the immediacy of club-focused tracks, and Mannerfelt thrives on the energy and community of contemporary club music. What makes him different is his response to that energy, as he pushes the music’s possibilities in wild, unpredictable directions.

Cold wave, minimal techno, electro abstract, avant- hard, hardcore techno, break core, IDM, EBM, Death Rock, punk Rock, New Wave,Dark Wave, Ambient, MiamiBootyBase, SpeedBase, Dub, RagaMuffin, Dubstep, Industrial, Noise, Experimental, world beat...did I forget anything?  Neophyte, for sure, and these are all my newly found treasures, that I have dug up from around the world.  One day I will produce some tracks again, until then, I will spend every minute listening to all the newly found gems!
