Snow w/John Marlowe

I find the work Thomas Telford amazing.  He was a fantastic civil engineer.  I wanted to write a song to honor him and his work.

After completing this song, I was disappointed.  I felt the lyrics were more like a history book than an interesting story in song.  He deserves some better lyrics. 

I like the harmonies and feel of the song.   I ended the last verse with an excerpt from some of his poetry.  You can find the complete poem after the lyrics and references.

This song is in 5/4 time.  The emphasis is on the 1 and the 4 throughout the song.

LAD in the sable weeds of woe,
The Scottish genius mourns,
As o'er your tomb her sorrows flow,
The "narrow house" of Burns.'

Each laurel round his humble urn,
She strews with pious care,
And by soft airs to distance borne,
These accents strike the ear.

Farewell my lov'd, my favourite child,
A mother's pride farewell!
The muses on thy cradle smiled,
Ah! now they ring thy knell.

And round the tomb the plough shall pass,

Happy New Year, you lovely people! We made it through 2020!!!

If you’ve searched for a specific track by The Dream Academy, you’d best move on - unless, however, you’re looking for something a little different, interesting and uplifting...

Is it house? Not quite. Is it garage? Not really. Maybe old school rave? Mmm, no. Trance? Well, I guess it’s a strange amalgamation of all of the above and more.

I’m not one for attempting to make genre-specific music, so it’s best to just go with what works on a track to track basis, for me at least. To be quite honest, what goes on in my feeble little brain rarely makes it as far as my DAW anyway, so my initial intentions often become irrelevant. I’m not criticising artists do who follow strict genre rules, I have a great deal of respect for those with the expertise to do so - it is a fine art!

Talking of expertise (or the lack of it), this is the second time I’ve uploaded this track, ‘cause I completely cocked up the first mix, which I uploaded on New Years Day. In the first version, the bass was almost undetectable on mobile speakers and the beats were way too loud, amongst other things. But, typical me, I got all excited about uploading on the 1st day of 2021, threw caution to the wind and now, here we are. Better late than never, I suppose. Hope it’s sorted this time. Let me know what you think...

Im from Melbourne Australia, I have been playing guitar for many years now and played in two bands during the 80's & 90's (STOLEN CAR original) & (STORM cover),both bands never released any material. Since 2010 i have been writing songs and tunes and recording them in my music room (3rd Bedroom), i play Guitar, Bass, Keys, BFD2 Drums(programmed)and Vocals on all of my songs which i class as Demo's, I love all types of music but Hard Rock, Rock to Alternative appeals to me most.
