Comprised of brothers Jimmy (guitar, lead vox) and Kane Maraday (bass, vox) and joined by Aaron Gollubier (drums), New Brunswick, NJ-based group The Rareflowers craft an infectious blend of jangle and power-pop reminiscent of masters like The Cars and The Replacements. Following a self-released split single, the band now announces their signing to Brooklyn-based label Good Eye Records and their forthcoming debut EP.

Although the name may be new, the seeds of The Rareflowers were sown as early as 2013. Jimmy and Kane had left their previous band to join Aaron, who had also left his band, to experiment with multitrack cassette recording.

Flash forward to 2016 and The Rareflowers, performing under a different name, meet Matthew Molnar (Friends, Kissing Is A Crime) at New Brunswick basement show. Molnar would prove integral in the production of the EP with mixing done by Jarvis Taveniere of Woodsist Records. Born from the spirit of this newly formed partnership, The Rareflowers are already at work on a follow-up LP.

Mogwai announce the release of KIN: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack; released on CD, vinyl and digitally on August 31. The album is composed of tracks recorded by the band for the score of the forthcoming sci-fi/crime drama. KIN is directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker, starring Jack Reynor, Zoë Kravitz, Carrie Coon, James Franco & Dennis Quaid. 

Mogwai have already released their sprawling track "Donuts" and today release "We’re Not Done (End Title)", the final track from their soundtrack. 

Of the soundtrack, Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite says: “We were really excited to be asked to record the original score for Jonathan and Josh Baker’s debut movie KIN. It was amazing to do a project that was so different to anything we’ve done before and see how our music fits in a totally different environment to how it’s been used before. The music in the film is some of my favourite Mogwai has ever made and we can’t wait for people to hear it.”

KIN is Mogwai’s first feature film soundtrack, having previously composed scores for documentaries including Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, Before the Flood (co-written and performed with Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Gustavo Santaolalla) and Atomic, Living in Dread and Promise. The band also provided the soundtrack for the acclaimed Canal+ French TV series Les Revenants. 

KIN, a pulse pounding crime thriller with a sci-fi twist, is the story of an unexpected hero destined for greatness. Chased by a vengeful criminal (James Franco) and a gang of otherworldly soldiers, a recently released ex-con (Jack Reynor) and his adopted teenage brother (Myles Truitt) are forced to go on the run with a weapon of mysterious origin as their only protection.

This new soundtrack follows a huge year for the Scottish band, which included the release of their highest charting album to date in Every Country’s Sun, as well as their biggest ever headline show to date last December at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena. Mogwai have already played at this year’s Primavera Sound in Barcelona and tonight will perform at London’s Royal Festival Hall as part of Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival. Later this summer, Mogwai will headline the BBC Music Stage at this year’s Latitude Festival on July 14th, as well as playing two shows at Edinburgh’s ELF-Leith Theatre on 22nd and 23rd August as part of Light On The Shore. Tickets for all dates are available now via mogwai.co.uk.
