Hello everyone, and welcome onboard the PFG Progcast, your weekly 1st Class trip around the world of Progressive Beats....

...and BREAKS! Today our journey goes transatlantic as we head into the US, and a Florida based DJ whose focus is all about those broken drums! Continually forging ahead with his unique sound, and with 25 years experience in the game, PFG Give it up.... for Joe Wink! 

As a child his father owned the counties only Vinyl & Cassette store, therefore Joe grew up immersed in music. He was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time, and that place was Orlando, FL 1992.

His experiences during this time with electronic music and the nightclubs lead way to over 25 years of dedication to the genre of breaks and in particular 'Progressive Breaks'. Inspired by Hybrid, Lostep, Way Out West and Sasha early on helped sculpt his musical taste to involve deep, intelligent and often emotional tunes. 

For the last 7 years his show 'Broken Essence'  has been syndicated internationally on several major stations, and recruits guest mixes from the leading producers and DJs in the genre.  He is a resident DJ on Subcode, the station that airs Broken Essence,  as well as running the 'Progressive Breaks' group on Facebook as a resource to find, share and discuss the genre's best music. I started this mix over one year ago and it’s fair to say it’s been an epic slog. Trying to find tracks that have stood the test of time, that were ‘mixable’ and worked within the context of the overall sound I wanted to achieve was difficult. It’s no exaggeration to say that I’ve put 100’s of hours into this.

In terms of track selection I’ve gone for the period in time that, in my opinion, represented the pinnacle of the progressive genre; the period that followed the experimental phase of the mid 90s and preceded the ‘everything sounds the same and must have a vocal’ phase from the early 2000s onwards. There are some great tracks in there, including the timeless ‘Cass & Slide – Perception’ and the Forbidden Future mix of Paul Van Dyk’s ‘Forbidden Fruit’, which features one of the greatest goose bump inducing breakdowns of all time.
