This set was initially created as a one-hour birthday gift for our friend Acky, who sadly passed away in January. Though I never had the chance to gift it to him, it felt appropriate to play it at sunrise at the tail-end of the Dreadful warehouse party last weekend. Acky was always present on the d-floor in those early hours. He is sorely missed, especially when so many good humans come together to celebrate life and music.

The mix combines ambient, downtempo, prog, breaks, and drum and bass, aiming to evoke feelings of contentment and bliss. It's a bit of a soundtrack for welcoming a new morning, and for moving and stretching to.

Dreadful Downtempo Sunrise Set - 25 May 2024

Otherworld 2024 was arguably the best regional I've ever burned at, and Skybar absolutely smashed it! I really didn't know what I had signed up for when I showed up to play my Friday night set, but I knew that I had to follow Candy Whip, so I prepared a filthy mix of Bass House & Breakbeats. 

However, I actually went "off book" around 2/3rds of the way into my set. I was getting super frustrated over some technical issues that I could not figure out. Thankfully, the lovely Justin Barnes noticed a loose RCA cable coming out of my controller, which explained what I was hearing. Finally able to enjoy myself, I decided to end with a sillier, more troll-y direction, which I think represents Skybar pretty well :) Enjoy!

Forming melancholic tales through melody and crescendo. Structuring blissful anticipation via tones that warm the heart until a time where a shift in mood unveils mystery and a sense of consequence.

been working on this one for almost half a year now. Was able to have access to an amazing studio (my dad's) up in Cairns to finish the track off which I'm very grateful for. Getting closer and closer to a full original set which is my main goal at the moment, can't wait to share these tunes on a full powered rig one day :)
