A tune I made called "Landmark" in 2023. think it still has a vibe listening back to it, so I thought id share it with you all for my birthday!

Chris.SU joins SOM on the next joint - ‘Chariots’ - and the result is addictive. It doesn’t come as a surprise - since their first collaboration in 2007, the names SOM and Chris.SU have together been synonymous with quality. ‘Chariots’ warms things up in classic fashion, with ominous voices underlying swaths of uplifting heroic melodies, although that’s where the roadmap ends. The duo brings us into a fierce groove of warmly oscillating and grinding basslines, only cut short as they’re forcefully punctuated with a lethal arrangement of menacing lead synth stabs. The verdict on this one is clear - a pure dancefloor killer. It’s a testament to their finesse as collaborators, that they so easily walk the line between the listeners’ expectations and sounds, rhythms and structures which are entirely alien - in the best way possible.

It hasn't taken long for Document One to define their own niche among the Technique Recordings roster. Brimming with multi-genre experience, this team has come well-equipped with a fresh and clean production style, overt musicality and uncompromising levels of funk. This release reasserts their commitment to the dancefloor while showing off yet more colours from their palette.

“Run the Block” takes the tough but smoky sound that Document One has made their own and adds a layer of East Coast hip-hop flavour. The rap-along vocal, that trademark upright and synthetic bass fusion, the popping drums and live-instrument arrangement combine to make this tune a definitive statement of Document One's musical heritage. And of course, that means it has that jazzfunk dancefloor energy in abundance.

Then “Small Steps” flips the script, darkening things up in a way you might not be expecting from these guys. The intro is the sound of approaching menace, as military drums call the dance to order. An eerie dialogue sample ratchets up the tension, before a building kick pattern is deployed as a call-to-arms. Then the drop is all about those twisted tendrils of bass, snaking around techstep drums and ghost-in-the-machine stabs. This is what happens when musicality meets aggression on a hell-bent mission to mash up the rave.

So, as well as keeping a firm grip on their low-down dancefloor funking credentials, this release has proved that Document One have a love and talent for all sides of this music. As their track titles declare, they “Run the Block” in the funk neighbourhood and they're making “Small Steps” into the shadowy technoid realm. Now they've shown they can kill the dance in both, it's clear the Document One operation doesn't believe in boundaries.

Emperor, having proved himself with heavyweight releases on VISION, Critical Music, UKF, Drum&BassArena, Symmetry, Inspected, Neosignal, remixes for Hospital and Blackout has become a force to be reckoned with.

Since his debut release - ‘Monolith’ back in June 2012, Emperor’s presence within the D&B scene has gone from strength to strength. Followed by the incredible ‘Jackhammer EP’ on Inspected records, which exposed a different creative side for the Lancashire born producer. His ‘Begin EP’ released on Critical in 2013 furthered his notoriety. Collaborations with Austrian powerhouse, Mefjus, on the prolific Hello World series, dominated charts and reinforced his stature as one of the heavyweights of Drum & Bass.
