Hailing from the north side of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Jam Thieves has been operating as a solo act since 2020.  Looking to build on his renowned versatility as a drum and bass producer working across various corners of the genre, Jam Thieves’ solo work usually centres around his iconic minimal style – full of funk, vocals and an undeniably upbeat vibe. 

The title track ‘Mandrake’ is the perfect example of this new direction, building around a looping female vocal the track develops and drops into a heavy bassline roller led by the funk-fuelled staccato drum work that drives the tune through ever developing turns. ‘Moon Rock’ continues this theme with more vocal edits and progressive bass modulations. 

When combined with the head-down, tech-funk work out of ‘Savana’ and the guitar fused deep roller of ‘Mind Control’ the EP demonstrates the versatility of this talented producer. 

‘Machine Gun’, a killer collab with label favourite Nymfo, completes this spectacular first outing for Jam Thieves on the label.

Quartz sent 'Brass Knuckles' over and I built an instant love for it. It was just completely different to anything else out there.  I've always been an easy pushover to any percussion / bongo led tunes since way back and this one definitely is no exception. I saw Mantra support this one real early on back in 2018, she had the same test version I had and it looked like the Keep Hush crowd really went for this one too, most of the other tracks on DISDUB019 are fresher out the studio, but this tune was the instigator and over time felt like a solid starter for a 180g plate of funk.

Moving in the opposite direction, Lockjaw lifts Ill Truth's '26' from the depths and into the minimalist's corner of the jump-up realm, issuing some nasty squelch dripping with debauched technology. The frenetic and penetrative percussion of Revaux's 'Head First' gets mutated into a heavy stepper by Arkitech, whilst one of Signal's breakout tunes 'Indirect' is brutally evolved in a halfstepper of towering proportions by one of the most exciting forces in electronica - Vorso.

With these 4 reimagined slices of intricately built audio, each artist has transformed and evolved their target with deep skill and love for the source material, resulting in a release that brings new freshness to already timeless tracks. Emperor, having proved himself with heavyweight releases on VISION, Critical Music, UKF, Drum&BassArena, Symmetry, Inspected, Neosignal, remixes for Hospital and Blackout has become a force to be reckoned with.

Since his debut release - ‘Monolith’ back in June 2012, Emperor’s presence within the D&B scene has gone from strength to strength. Followed by the incredible ‘Jackhammer EP’ on Inspected records, which exposed a different creative side for the Lancashire born producer. His ‘Begin EP’ released on Critical in 2013 furthered his notoriety. Collaborations with Austrian powerhouse, Mefjus, on the prolific Hello World series, dominated charts and reinforced his stature as one of the heavyweights of Drum & Bass.

Deep, dark, emotive, uplifting... spanning a range of styles whilst retaining a unique quality. Each track bringing you a new twist on that distinctive Emperor sound. 2018 also saw the debut album for his alter-ego, Monuman. After releasing two collaborations on The Upbeats critically acclaimed 'No Sleep Till' project, Emperor started his own imprint - 'EMPR', starting out with Crybaby/Goblin, Daft Funk/Convex, as well as an exclusive series of tracks exclusive to Patreon.

Emperor is without doubt one of the most exciting producers in bass music, gritty mechanics combined with beautiful soundscapes, intricate sound design, and all out rawness. A distinctive sound to behold.
