A Warsaw based Indian DJ — Manali’s affinity for obscure, spacey sounds has seen her bring a unique vibe to the dance-floors, drawing attention and fascinating the crowds and promoters alike across South Asia and parts of Europe, where she performs regularly since late 2010. Her versatile DJ sets feature meticulous selections of techno heavily infused with electro, acid, breaks and psychedelic sounds that do not confine within 4/4 — all the while as much effortlessly blending deep and minimal house jams to build a groovy but relaxed vibe during her occasional residency stints. 

No wonder she rose through the ranks and had supported brilliant artists like Sonja Moonear, Barac, Carl Finlow; and has played at Far Out Left - India's premier techno festival - and performed alongside the likes of DVS1, Identified Patient, Volvox, Umfang, Tapefeed, Aurora Halal and many more.

Drawn together by a mutual passion for quality underground music, Dutch based podcast Play by Ear [PBE] and Intrinsic Audio Sessions [IAS] from South Africa have joined forces for a special collaborative series. By combining our respective backgrounds and listenership, the series aims to fuse our tastes and interests through showcasing a dynamic set of mixes that caters for a diverse audience of underground music lovers. Manali Shah: A Mumbai born, Amsterdam based DJ/Producer - the last few years has seen Manali Shah playing in clubs, bars & festivals all over India. Focused at delivering intense well-crafted sets, her style is best described as deep tech, minimal, deep tech house, underground house, dub techno & techno - layered with thumping bassline - often stripped down raw & rusty. PBE x IAS Podcast 001 / Manali Shah

Refusing to confine herself to a particular genre, BPM or mood and fearless in her experimentations, Manali’s versatile DJ sets feature meticulous bold and eclectic selections that feature raw and hypnotic techno, often adding trance and rave elements at the fringes; and at other times she infuses leftfield, electro, breaks, garage and bass to her DJ sets, all the while as much effortlessly blending spacey house jams for intimate settings clubs and bars!

No wonder Manali has supported highly riveted artists like Sonja Moonear, Barac, Carl Finlow etc, and has played at Far Out Left (India's premier techno festival), where she was seen on the bill alongside the likes of DVS1, Identified Patient, Volvox, Umfang, Tapefeed, Aurora Halal and many more.

Besides playing for streaming platforms like HÖR Berlin, erstwhile Amsterdam-based projects like Red Light Radio and New Dutch School, she has been a resident DJ with a highly coveted Mumbai-based electronic music promotion and artist management agency - Regenerate music; and a Minimal and House collective Technic Fabrique - based out of the Netherlands and featuring in their ADE showcases two years in a row. Besides India, Netherlands and Poland, she has performed in Berlin, Switzerland, Maldives and Nepal.

A rather newcomer in the Polish scene, she has already played at spots like Jasna 1, Chmury, Luzztro and more; recently in Sekta Selekta in Kraków whilst continuing to spread her wings.

Far Out Left Festival Promo mix by Manali

Essentially, DJing is the act of playing one track after the other in cohesion. But that's not how Manali sees it – for her, each set is a sonic exercise in storytelling, a singular journey that transports her audience to other worlds. With her love for spacey, hypnotic, and obscure sounds, the journeys often end up venturing into the future, or outer space.

Originally from Mumbai, Manali is now based in Amsterdam. Her move was inspired by her penchant for travel and her inclination towards the city's thriving dance music culture. The past few years have seen her regularly play at popular Dutch clubs, start her own parties, and build a notable presence in the Dutch minimal scene.

With her mix for Wild City, Manali fabricates a hard-hitting soundscape charged with futuristic sounds, with a singular intention of making listeners transcend into outer space - or perhaps, more fittingly, to an extraterrestrial party on Mars. Starting with a gripping, jaunty tune (that unfortunately remains anonymous), the mix showcases her minimalistic approach to house and techno, with undertones of acid, breaks, and electro.
