The Playground Premieres and Exclusives - 2021

As an exercise in recreating the moment before the Chernobyl explosion, The Hacker and Commuter employ vintage synthesisers on Roentgen PT1, and the crafting of these sounds to create an unerring tension places us in the room as if we were one of the physicists watching imminent disaster unfold, being unable to do anything about it.

The latest release from the forthcoming EP by India's techno pioneer Arjun Vagale is a looping, fluxional piece of hypnotic techno. Structured through repetition,  Sustain Sequence becomes an immersive manifestation of Time Cop’s thematic concern. 

In Vagale's own words, "The main synth on Sustain Sequence was part of a much larger recording, and while scanning it, I found this nice chunk that sounds almost static but evolves slowly with minute modulations. I knew I wanted this to be a bit of a slow and trippy track that I could layer in my DJ sets."

Memorex Memories says: "In Glasgow, the summer typically lasts the best part of a week and if you're one of the many people unfortunate enough to have a day job, you’re going to see most of it through the office window. I used to work this really sh***y office job and whenever it became too much for me (which was often the case) I used to look at photos of these perfect Miami beaches and attempt to project myself to that location. Almost like a mental vacation.

These idyllic, pictures of purple skies that seemed to be drenched in an eternal amber twilight so thick it was palpable.

That's what I wanted to capture in this track. I wanted to take the listener on a brief mental vacation."

iSorin says: "Regarding the track, I was off from work around Thanksgiving time when a melody popped in my head. Put that into FL Studio, found a cool RnB acapella and chopped it up, and the rest is history. Worked on it that entire weekend and finally re-opened and finished it a few months ago. The hip hop influences really shine through in this one with the percussion."

Resonata originates from Texas, but has lived all over the US and travelled around the globe.  His early influences draw heavily from the likes of Nine Inch Nails-era Industrial as well as Electronic music pioneers like Trip-Hop's Massive Attack and the Deep Dub/Future Garage enigma, Burial.  He aims for creating a mish-mash style of his influences combined and likes to refer to his specific flavour of music as "Dance Music for Sad People".

[PREMIERE] MONOMORTE - HEART

Melbourne-based UK native @edapollo is electronic producer, instrumentalist and visual artist Ed Bidgood

Following on from last years "Daylight" EP release and his recent HypeMachine no. 1 remix for @Koresma, Ed is back with the first new material from his debut full-length album "Endless Cascades" due out this August. The release comes in the form of double A-side single 'Aurora' and 'Silk Spirals' which show the more house-leaning side of Ed's sound. Both tracks blur the lines between the dance floor and chill out, weaving, spiralling and taking the listener on a unique journey through his world.

[PREMIERE] edapollo - Aurora

Eone is Brighton DJ and producer Simon Mitchell. Having DJ'd for many years, Mitchell's friend Mark Allen (of Karm:A) installed a copy of Reason on his old PC and the rest is history.

His abilities as a selector have seen him feature on RINSE France and provide mixes for the likes of London-based labels Brunswick Sound (@brunswicksound) and SYNES - who will be releasing his forthcoming "Digital Vision" EP on Friday, August 30th.

We are pleased to present the first taste of Eone's new 3-track release in the form of 'Swift Blades', a mind-bending track overflowing with atmosphere and energy. 

"This was made coming back on the train from Bristol. It was my first time at The Black Swan, a quaint little venue full of affable patrons, high on life and love. The energy I felt that weekend went straight into DAW."

Whilst 2020 has seen nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt AKA Satin Jackets return to his roots, releasing an EP of equally chilled- and blissed-out instrumental cuts, fans of the vocal collaborations that marked the German producer's last album are well catered for with 'Think About It', a brand new single that nods towards a poppier direction and wouldn't sound out of place on last year's 'Solar Nights' LP.

Recorded earlier this year in the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, famous for having hosted the likes of David Bowie, Depeche Mode and Falco in the 70s and 80s, the storied building's atmosphere, an inspiration to songwriters and musicians for decades, quickly worked its magic on Tim.

"I was in Berlin for a few days to meet and work with songwriters from around the world, and really it's not hard to be motivated when you're in a place with a history like Hansa." He explains. "It's like it has this aura from all the great records that have been recorded there over the years, it left us in awe and was very inspiring. Anyway time to do some proper disco I thought and so that's what we did."

And "proper disco" is exactly what we've got here. A beat that will kick your feet into gear, a bass line to engage your hips, guitars, pianos and strings all coming together to deliver the kind of sun kissed melodies Satin Jackets fans know and love and then to top it all off a stunning vocal performance to ensure that much like the lyrics say this is one track won't be able to get out of your mind this summer.

Detroit Grand Pubahs (Paris The Black Fu and The Mysterious Mr O) restart their Engineroom imprint with a series of reissues and reimaginings.

Their "Thanks For Coming EP" was originally released in 2008 as a precursor to their "Nuttin’ Butt Funk" album.  This special 2020 remastered version includes the original track, as well as The Advent and Steve Bug remixes which were featured on the 2008 release, but is now accompanied by a new remix from Techmarine Bottom Feeders who recently released their debut album on EPMmusic.
