Mindscape provides no-nonsense dancefloor vibes with 'Brightness'. Quickly stepping things up during the intro, 'Brightness' continues to gain momentum as new elements are brought to the forefront. A hefty bassline swings back and forth as the drum programming intensifies, kicking things into full force. Synth stabs converge with an unruly cowbell to increase the pulse rate. Faint vocal-like pads stretch into the breakdown, strangely mystical and bordering upon uplifting, before crashing back down to earth with another heavyweight drop. In tightly followed fashion is Eastcolors ‘Murderer’, taken by Audio and Meth and given an imposing alter ego. Slowly building with a flicker of sound pulling through its murky waters, each layer adds more intimidating detail, until it meets a crescendo that buckles under the producers’ beat matching.  A pandora’s box of LFO-based anarchy weaves itself around the original’s skeleton and it’s not hard to see why this remix was showcased on such a weighty release.

Deep within the shifting sands lay the remains of a once great city, a monument to the hubris of those who had once thought they could conquer the indomitable forces of the planet. To hold back the everpresent encroachment of the dunes they had raised walls of great heights, built upon the sacrifice of those least fortunate among them, those condemned to work beneath the blistering heat of the land. It was through their blood that the city was built, through their blood that the fortunate lived in such an otherwise inhospitable climate. As the death of these sacrifices increased however, they bore new life elsewhere. Their blood, seeping through the cracked desert soil, awakened something long since sealed away.

Fed by their misery, the creature’s power grew beneath the dunes. For each that fell it became stronger, its hunger rising as it tasted more and more that which had been denied to it for so long. Upon the night of the sun’s peak it rose, driven by the heat that still radiated from the earth. It was a malstrom of sand, fire, and bone, an amalgamation of destruction which surged across the landscape. What little life there was in this desolate place was subsumed into its maw, becoming a part of the dynamo which swept towards the city. Its winds battered against the walls, grinding their stones to dust which only furthered the creature’s power. In minutes it had broken through, and as the city was swallowed within the vortex the DUST DEVIL reclaimed for the desert what was its own once again.

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN with the release of DUST DEVIL, a five track EP featuring collaborations with TRILO & CHASER. DOUBLE RUSH features the powerful combination of MIZO & CHASER, as well as the combination of a frantic topline and charging bass which work together to move the track forwards at a rapid pace. DUST DEVIL whips this dynamic energy into a further frenzy as its basses whirl with unrestrained fury atop a devastating drumbeat. While the gradual approach of HORIZON grows to become a steady lock-step rhythm that soars with effortless aptitude over its arpeggiated bassline, MIZO & TRILO’s ARTIFICIAL NOISE takes a different approach as it leaps into the musical melee, bolstered by the power of its roaring synths.The second collaboration with CHASER, CONTACTLESS, closes the EP, its desolate soundscape quickly transformed into a tech filled groove that rides upon its rolling sub and the strange shiftings of its tonal topline synths. SINISTER SOULS returns to OTHERCIDE RECORDINGS for his latest EP “PLEASURE OF
PAIN”, which follows a selection of their recent releases across labels including PRSPCT
Recordings, Mindocracy Recordings, and their 2019 single on OTHERCIDE “Spider//Hatred” as
part of an increasingly intense torrent of output from the longtime crossbreed and bass music
veteran. Building on such sturdy foundations, PLEASURE OF PAIN finds ample room to
continue to display the signature SINISTER SOULS sound, standing as a decisive statement of
intent as SINISTER SOUL’s first release of the new year.
PLEASURE OF PAIN sweeps into being on the electrified basslines and cinematic chords of its
title track, which surges forth from a subdued atmosphere to provide a dynamic entrance for the
EP’s sonic character. EAT BRAINS then follows with a set of distorted kickdrums and arpeggios
that seem to rise and fall endlessly between the respective portions of its tense breakdowns and
frenzied main sections.100 LIVES features collaboration with MC KRYPTOMEDIC, who delivers
a dense deluge of lyricism atop a track equally dense with percussive elements and metallic
timbres that ripple throughout the track with unrestrained kinetic potential. FLAWLESS closes
the EP as a combination of its myriad elements, combining the rapid arpeggios of EAT BRAINS,

The crumbling city stood like the bones of a decaying animal, falling to ruin in a silence amplified by the lack of ears nearby that might hear it. It was an oppressive quiet, broken only rarely by the falling of concrete or steel to the cracked asphalt below. Yet one day, a new cry uttered forth within that sonic emptiness. It was shrill yet powerful, and it rang out slowly as though painstakingly expunged from the throat of the beast that had emitted it. Its source, however, came only indirectly from the biology of those who caused it. For this was the cry of feet of steel, forced open and ground against its frame by the two lonesome souls who had lain within.

That first moment of sunlight was blinding to their eyes, even when filtered through the roiling green clouds that blanketed the sky and rained down debris onto the landscape. Day and night had ceased to mean anything within the pair’s holdout, and their emergence into the gloom of midday stood in stark opposition to the biological clocks that had regulated their bodies for so long. Even for all these banalities with which they were met, the pair knew that they could no longer find shelter in their subterranean home, their supplies exhausted by the indeterminate passage of time that had marched over them therein. No, now the pair knew that they must go forth, back into the world that had once been their own. For them, the only hope at life lay underneath that green glowing sky, somewhere in the vast unknown that lay beyond the BUNKER.

AGRESSOR BUNX emerge from their studio to deliver BUNKER, the first step in their journey into the lands of the ENSUING CATACLYSM that will imbue their sonic works in the months to come. Their first release on EATBRAIN since 2019’s Power Glow EP, AGRESSOR BUNX return to lead the label’s ravenous horde through the tumultuous landscape of the cataclysm to come, debuting BUNKER as the first step amidst its apocalyptic advance.

Growing up hooked to the bleeps and breaks of The Prodigy and London’s pirate radio stations, Blade and Virtua followed the development of Jungle to Drum &amp; Bass, eventually finding themselves drawn to the futuristic output of labels such as Underfire and Renegade Hardware – and in particular, the techno-edged Konflict sound.Meeting through friends in the late 1990s, they have been producing Drum &amp; Bass together ever since.
Their first release as The Sect came in 2003, but it was their debut EP on Offkey in 2006 that brought them to the attention of many of the scene’s most important players.A string of releases followed quickly on a host of other respected labels, including: Position Chrome, Freak, Obscene, Habit and Subsistenz and they have received support from DJs across the Drum &amp; Bass spectrum for their productions and remixes on labels as diverse as Cause 4 Concern Ltd, PRSPCT, Red Light, KSS Black and Utopia Music.
Despite the heavy production schedule, The Sect are as at home behind the decks as in the studio. Virtua has showcased his formidable turntablist skills at competitions and nights around the country and Blade has been DJing for nearly 20 years, playing regularly at events across the world, from the UK to Russia and New Zealand. They have established a reputation for high-energy DJ sets, combining tight mixing with cutting-edge dubs to move crowds wherever they play.
The Sect’s debut album ‘Fractured State’ was released on Subsistenz Recordings in December 2011.
