Following her sold-out show at St Pancras Old Church last year, multi-instrumentalist and French songstress Mina Tindle returns with her new single ‘Lovely Day’ on March 4th through Believe Recordings. The track comes from her tri –lingual debut album Taranta (out now), which the 405 described as “an irresistible display of musical excitement which demands repeat listens”.

Like Feist singing above the off kilter rhythms of Dirty Projectors, ‘Lovely Day’ is a melodic sing-along built around shimmering guitar lines and layers of subtle harmonies, its lyrics hinting at something altogether darker (Silent eyes you’ve known/ plenty of fears but kept them home/ the story they have told / blurred memories between their walls) than its rhythm suggests . The single comes accompanied by reinterpretations from friends and fellow Frenchman Francois and the Atlas Mountains (Henry), Breton (Too Loud), Amateur Best (Lovely Day) and Typesun (Lovely Day), who all offer their own unique take on tracks from her debut, Taranta.

A self-confessed latecomer as a musician, Mina didn’t start making music until her early twenties when she moved to New York, before then moving back to Paris to complete her debut album. Developing her own sound and mixing with local artists like Beirut (who’s Ben Laz contributes Trombones to Taranta), Grizzly Bear and The National, which led to her singing backing vocals on their acclaimed album Boxer.

“I had been singing, as had my entire family, forever so music had always been around; my mother is an amazing singer but she never did anything other than a couple of shows, and sang other peoples’ songs. But for me it was nothing professional, so I guess it was not an option nor did I think it was something I could do for a living.”

Mina Tindle is a name that’s been whispering through the alternative scene like a breath of fresh air for some years now. And an interesting name it is too (borrowed from Milo Tindle, a character in Joseph Mankiewicz’s 1972 film Sleuth) for a French singer (with Spanish roots) who has electrified anyone lucky enough to see her live or hear her self-produced songs.
Following her sold-out headline show at St Pancras Old Church, London, Mina Tindle will return to the UK for a run of dates in 2013.
