ABOUT THE APARTE PROJECT
In the beginning, there were The Aparte Songs: the peculiar yet catchy tunes of singer and keyboard player Martin Guldberg and the idiosyncratic, at times obscure lyrics of guitarist John Theodor Thomsen - the result of the collaboration of two very different minds, sharing a common passion for creating popular music with a twist: 

Then came the band. With the addition of two yet still more different minds: the meticulous bass player Christian Højer-Pedersen and the more spontaneous drummer Martin Helsing, Brothers Aparte was born - a group of seriously ambitious young musicians, taking on the challenge of writing and arranging The Aparte Songs as well as performing the songs in countless clubs and lots of bigger venues including numerous festival venues.

Now, many years later, there are The Aparte Project - Martin Guldberg, John Theodor Thomsen and Christian Højer-Pedersen - of Brothers Aparte, older if not wiser, but still engaged in writing, arranging, recording, producing and releasing Aparte Songs, above all for the love of the process itself: the pleasure of turning vague and sometimes chaotic ideas into well-defined and organised music, but also in the belief that the world needs more Aparte Songs.

THE APARTE MUSIC
If forced to categorize The Aparte Music, one could probably label it melodic pop-rock, with a leaning towards folk and classical music, but no bent toward blues or jazz. Labels, however, tend to be deceptive and can easily become strait-jackets. Brothers Aparte have never pledged allegiance to any specific musical genre, but always sought to remain open to all sorts of musical inspiration, from ethnic to electronic, from folk to funk.
Another way of describing The Aparte Music might be to call it an exploration of simplicity, sometimes verging on the obscure, but never straying from the melodious. Most of The Aparte Songs are made up of simple melodic phrases, but often sung to a background of complex chord progressions, and then combined in contrasting parts. The aim is to create songs that are interesting as well as emotionally appealing, music that appeals to the heart as well as the mind.

THE APARTE LYRICS
Song writers sometimes claim that their lyrics were written on a piece of chewing gum paper on the way to the recording studio. And it may be true that the best lyrics are those that come immediately to mind, but in all honesty, The Aparte Lyrics usually don’t come that easy. The chorus and the first verse may often suggest themselves, but from then on it’s hard work: What should the next verse be about? Should there be a bridge? And what about a middle eight?

Most often The Aparte Music comes first, and the lyrics then have to be fitted into a very tight scheme, with stanzas, syllables, metric feet and rhymes to be taken into consideration. Writing Aparte Lyrics can be a bit like doing a crossword puzzle, but then, writing to a tight scheme can also be the challenge that sparkles inspiration. 

There are no clear-cut messages in The Aparte Lyrics: no solutions as to how to save the world, or just the whales. Nevertheless, the lyrics do tend to reflect on life, the universe and all that, and if there are no answers to be found, there are plenty of questions:  How do I lead my life in a world out of joint? How do I stay a decent guy in a society that seems to favour crooks? Am I really alive, or am I just dreaming?
