Just over a month ago I attended the 7 year anniversary of Nowadays. It was an excellent event: Incredible acts start to finish and an impeccable atmosphere - but the standout experience for me was the 6am-9am set by Introspekt. 

She delivered an absolute masterclass. It had space, energy, flow, intensity, complexity, it was powerful, sensual, meditative and deep, yet hard-hitting. Taking us on a journey through a massive variety of sounds around the 2-step and dubstep-adjacent worlds of music, blending styles together in a mix of vinyl and digital in a way that really inspired me. It was without a doubt the best set I was fortunate enough to experience last year. 

So I had to try and get that feeling out somehow, leading to this mix. 

I called it Refracted as in "the action of distorting an image by viewing through a medium" or "to alter or distort as if by refraction" in the sense that this set allowed me to look at music I've loved for along time through a different lens, and refract that perspective through my own lens, into this mix.

I really wanted to capture some of that swung 2-step energy alongside the deeper dubstep cuts and rave tracks in a cohesive whole that had both space and drive. I think I landed somewhere in between. Let me know what you think!

REFRACTED

Hailing from the Danish underground with roots in the Copenhagen sound system culture, Audiofields is renowned as a purveyor of heavyweight bass music, particularly in the realms between deep Dub, Steppers, Footwork, tearout Jungle, Drum & Bass, UK Funky & Garage. Since 2018 he has been carving out space for himself in the Northeast, initially by way of Dub-Stuy, Konkrete Jungle and Bassdrive in NYC. Now settled in Providence, RI, he is actively engaged in curating bass music experiences for the local community.
