You Are My Friend / Sylvester (1985) — 

Coming in at 123 beats per minute, the opening track of this continuous mix is a complete rework of Sylvester’s iconic tribute to his relationship with his backup singers Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes-Armstead (aka “The Weather Girls” and “Two Tons O' Fun”). The song's lyrics express themes of love, friendship, and loyalty, with Sylvester proclaiming his devotion to cherished companions. 

The original version (not a dance track), renowned for its energy and emotional depth, was recorded in front of a live audience at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House in 1981.  It's considered one of the highlights of his career and remains a cherished moment in music history. The reimagined version is a complete rework that is sure to please.  

Tell Me / Razor-N-Tape (2021) —

This is a standout track characterized by its infectious groove, funky bass line, and soulful vocals. It captures the essence of classic disco while incorporating modern production techniques. It dovetails nicely with Sylvester’s “You Are My Friend”.

I Just Can’t Get Enough / Herd & Fitz ft. Abigail Bailey (2006) — 

This dance floor anthem features an infectious rhythm, uplifting vibe, catchy melodies, and Bailey's amazingly soulful vocals. Released in 2006, the song gained significant success in the dance music scene and became a favorite in clubs and on radio playlists.

Can You Feel It / The Jacksons (1980) — 

Produced by legendary producer Quincy Jones and initially released in 1980, this uplifting and anthemic rework presents polished and powerful vocals and a catchy melody that stands the test of time. "Can You Feel It?" exudes a feeling of optimism and hope for a brighter future. The lyrics paint a picture of a world where people come together to create positive change and overcome adversity.

September and You / Earth, Wind, and Fire vs. Alyx Ander (1978) —

 Incorporating modern production techniques, electronic elements, and some outstanding new vocal arrangements and instrumental layers, this mashup combines elements of the late 70’s Earth, Wind & Fire track, "September”, with beats from the San Francisco-based designer, photographer and remixer, Alyx Andre. The reengineered piece has a fresh sound that appeals to a new generation of listeners while paying homage to the original.

Let’s Go ‘Round Again / Average White Band (1980) — 

This flashback track from Scottish funk and R&B band Average White Band conveys themes of love, reconciliation, and the desire to start anew in a relationship. Its upbeat tempo and infectious rhythm make it a favorite among funk and soul music fans, and this rendition is characterized by its catchy melody, smooth vocals, and funky groove.  

Wear It Out / Starguard (1979) — 

The final track in this mix is from DJ Pete Refreq, who works his digital layering and remixing talents on this late seventies dance track characterized by an infectious groove, catchy melody, and anthemic vocals by band members, Rochelle Runnells, Debra Anderson, and Janice Williams.

Here's my last Flagging in the Living Room mini-dance remix. This nearly 40-minute compilation features flagger-friendly renditions of dance floor classics from the 1970s to the 2000s, reimagined by myself and others. I'm releasing this remix in anticipation of Flagging in the Desert on April 13, 2024, in Palm Springs, CA.

"No One Gets The Prize" (Almighty Anthem Radio Edit) / Diana Ross

Diana Ross released "No One Gets the Prize" in 1979 as part of her album "The Boss." Legendary British production duo Almighty rearranged the mix to highlight Miss Ross's stunning vocals. This energetic remix is a disco fan favorite for its infectious rhythm and catchiness.

[Medley] "Vertigo: Relight My Fire" (Mean Fiddler 12 Inch Solo Remix) / Dan Hartman ft Loleatta Holloway

Dan Hartman's 1979 medley merges "Vertigo" and "Relight My Fire" into a dynamic disco track, smoothly blending both songs. "Relight My Fire," featuring Loleatta Holloway's powerful vocals, stands out.

The 'Mean Fiddler' remix was created by DJ and music producer Alan Coulthard, whose reworking often incorporates extended intros, breaks, and a focus on enhancing the rhythmic and melodic elements of the original tracks.

"You Make Me Feel Mighty Real Might Real" (M Carranco 2013 Vocal Remix) / Sylvester

Spanish music producer M Carranco revamps Sylvester's iconic hit "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)," a celebrated anthem from the late '70s LGBTQ+ disco scene. Known for its catchy beat, dynamic vocals, and empowering lyrics, the song champions liberation and self-empowerment, resonating with the LGBTQ+ community. 

Sylvester, an openly gay icon known for his flamboyance and vocal prowess, helped the track transcend the disco scene, hitting mainstream success worldwide. This enduring classic is considered one of the greatest disco songs.

"Begin the Beguine" (Fundamento ReMix) / Johnny Mathis

Cole Porter wrote "Begin the Beguine" in 1935; Johnny Mathis released it as a disco track in 1979. Spanish DJ/producer Diego-Funkdamento, known for his classic song remixes, offers a modern take on this track in this continuous mix.

Claudio Spagnoli's High Hell Club Mix of "I Feel Love" pairs Donna Summer's ethereal vocals with a pulsating electronic beat. Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte's original production is a seminal influence in electronic dance music, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of disco and electronic music. It remains a timeless classic and a staple of dance floors worldwide.

"Crazy" (Tempo Elektrik ReMix) / Gnarls Barkley

"Crazy (Tempo Elektrik Remix)" is a reworking of a 2006 hit by Gnarls Barkley, a musical collaboration between producer Danger Mouse and rapper/singer CeeLo Green.

The original version of "Crazy" topped charts worldwide and received critical acclaim for its unique blend of soul, funk, alternative rock elements, catchy lyrics, and CeeLo Green's distinctive vocals.

Tempo Elektrik (DJ Jay Partridge) has been spinning tunes for nearly twenty years at some of the UK's most high-profile venues.

"I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" / Barry Manilow

"I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" was initially recorded by England Dan & John Ford Coley in 1976. Barry Manilow covered the song in 1997. The disco version sampled here transformed the song into a more upbeat and energetic rendition, fitting the disco trends of the time.

"Believe" (Ministers De La Funk Remix) - Jocelyn Brown

"Believe" (Ministers De La Funk Remix) is a notable remix of the song originally performed by Jocelyn Brown. The remix included here is from Ministers De La Funk, a collaborative project involving renowned DJs and producers Erick Morillo, Harry Romero, and Jose Nunez.

This remix is an excellent example of how remixing can breathe new life into a track, giving it a fresh sound while still honoring the original composition.

It’s been a while since my last podcast, but I’m ready with a new one to kick off the summer. Vol. 14 is a two-hour journey that starts with nu-disco and then builds gradually to a full dance floor house music frenzy - it turns into a groove set in the middle before bringing it back around to some soulful sounds and finally ending with some more chill tech house to wrap up the journey. 

There are a few new tracks from some of my favorite producers on here that I love so much and can’t wait to highlight in sets this summer, including Sam Divine’s “Saved By The Record,” Wh0’s “Sunglasses,” and Earth n Days’ “Stronger”... Illyus & Barrientos’ homage to Vicki Sue Robinson - “VSR” (sampling “House Of Joy”) - gives me chills it’s so good.
