S03E05 - Are We Really Helping?

Variations on a theme by Robert Schumann	Op. 20			Clara Schumann
Known as one of the most distinguished pianist in the Romantic era, Clara Josephine Schumann composed these variations based on Bunte Blätter, Op. 99 by her husband Robert Schumann.  This work marks as one of Clara’s last compositions for the piano. She presented to him for his last birthday spent with the family in 1853. Schumann attempted suicide the year after in 1854 and was sent to a sanatorium near Bonn. Clara was separated with her husband until days before his death in 1856.  Johannes Brahms, after seeing the unpublished score, in return was inspired and composed his own Variations on a theme by Robert Schumann, Op. 9, dedicating them to Clara.

Despite the low quality recording, one of the most beautiful trio works I would revisit for any newly formed piano trios. Beethoven was heavily influenced by Mozart and Haydn, which is clearly depicted in this piano trio work.
