➔ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 / 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸?
I usually don’t start with a certain concept. Every track is just a caption of the actual moment. I am open to conceptual projects, and telling stories, but right now, a single track can‘t serve this purpose.

➔ 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸?
Hm, I have a lot of fun with messing around with elements from different genres, which could be interpreted as bringing different (sub)cultures together in some way, which even shows parallels to my biography, but that’s nothing I newly invented, or where I feel the urge overinterpret or bring to a very personal level. From my viewpoint, it just seems to mirror the common process of the development of all the diverse outcomes (in form, style, genre, etc.) in music throughout history, in general.  I really got into experimenting and playing around with sound synthesis. Love the benefits of living in an era, where there is a huge accessibility of information through the WWW. It’s so convenient to dig into a specific subject and learn new stuff. What’s also great is, that it’s so affordable, sustainable and cheap to try out new things with emulators/VSTs first, before getting hands on expensive or room taking hardware. The almost endless possibilities with new easily available technologies might appear overwhelming at first, but can be wonderfully freeing and motivating, and I hope others see this as an invitation too, to start getting creative in any form. Of course, many of these perks apply to many other art forms (or even sciences).  On a technical side, other smart artists, I admire. (Sometimes I try to recreate a specific sound I like and think would fit into my productions, but in the end I always end up with something completely different haha, yeah, but that’s quite a common thing, I guess?)

➔ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹?
Expression and communication. Through music I found a new way, besides words, to capture and express a current state of my mood. Overall, having a creative output helps me coping with feelings, which makes it easier to reflecting on my thoughts. I noticed my lacking ability of expression, which kind of increased while growing up. As a result, I somehow felt disconnected from everything. So for me starting to be a creator and opening up, sharing my work (after being already a listener, clubber and collector for a long time) means participating in an exchange with others on a new level and reconnecting with my surroundings, which helped me gain a lot of life quality back.  From the perspective as a listener, I appreciate the educational and cultural aspects it can bring with. It helped me draw a connection and developed an understanding between historical events, sociological dynamics and my biography; for example, when I tried to dig deeper into Vietnamese culture, my origins and roots with diaspora immigrant parents, music was one of the key tools that helped me to get into this topic. It is interesting and fascinating to see, how political and environmental circumstances can shape a sound, and in reverse what sound can portray.  I notice the potentially empowering capability music culture can have, for both, artists and listeners.  It also can be very sweet and fun, when you find yourself in a lovely, supporting community, regardless whether as an artist or a listener.

Air Waves Guest Mix 003 - @eramexp (São Paulo, Brazil)

Our third guest mix comes from a rising star of the Brazilian underground scene, providing us with fast and exciting rave music. 

ERAM is the project of the multidisciplinary brazilian artist Marianna Viscaíno. She is co-founder and curator of @zonaexp, part of the @ghettotraxx agency roster and the host of a monthly radio show on VENENO Radio in São Paulo.

Coming from the Brazilian underground scene, she played countless partys and is a national reference in the leftfield electronic music. Her productions reflect her strong personality by merging sounds that come from electro, breakbeat, ghetto tech, jungle and juke to create a grim, dense atmosphere, pervaded by broken beats, accelerated BPMs and sophisticated drum textures.

With her ruthless rave sound she is getting a lot of attention outside of Brazil by now, which her mixes for @yazzus-1, @raiders_records, @rinse_france or @bubble-bath-berlin prove.
