Worship of the sun, the quiet madness at the moment of sunrise in Tokyo− The dazzle and desolation of adolescence in the metropolis of despair is refined into a euphoric, trancy soundscape.

Solace From The Sun is the long-awaited debut album from Ichiro Tanimoto, leader of Tokyo-based trance cult Minna-no-kimochi and
founder of the label Mizuha 罔象 @mizuha-cc, both of which are at the forefront of the neo-trance movement in Japan.

The album contains 14 blissed-out, post-rave tracks, including a collaboration with Silént Phil, a Russian electronic musician who passed away in 2021. The artwork is by Kazuma Watanabe, graphic designer for the Minna-no-kimochi collective.

This week Amy Ireland and Maya B. Kronic joined Cooper and Taylor to discuss their collaborative project, Cute Accelerationism.

Amy Ireland is a theorist and experimental writer based in Melbourne, Australia. Her research focuses on questions of agency and technology in modernity, and she is a member of the techno-materialist trans-feminist collective, Laboria Cuboniks.

Maya B. Kronic (they/them) is a philosopher and Head of Research and Development at the publisher Urbanomic, which aims to engender interdisciplinary thinking and production. The Agent, patient, and product of ongoing research project on gender hyperstition and cute accelerationism.

Could Be An Angel

The 43rd release of katharsis is the album “Love Language” by the Danish artist icfam. It is evocative like a long makeout session, tongue action specifically. icfam celebrates the long journeys to daydreamy destinations on a record that is romantic and peaceful, yet at times highly energetic.

Through streamlined synthesis and arrangements, icfam produces a composite world of sound that carries a message of love and simplicity. Despite the meticulous care for sound design on this record, the use of intuitive sounds and phrases so simple, sometimes approaches a sort of mindlessness. Building conceptually on sinewaves as the only sound that really exists, the artist develops a nonfragmented illusion through obsession over the harmonic series and melodies within melodies.

Love Language is both reassuring and mystifying, like your favourite lullaby. As well as intoxicatingly painful like exquisite torture. icfam wants to express a special feeling one might get from going to the hospital. A cathartic feeling of being safe and held.

If you’ve fallen from above
You’re walking with your woes
If there’s nowhere to run
The happy hospital
