Electronic music has been a main artery of KØAL's life, interest, and pursuits ever since the first warehouse party he went to in Seattle WAAAY back in 1995.  Calling a voicemail ntnaphone number on the flyer to find out the party's location, the booming bass lines with all the little digital sounds woven in blasting from speakers stacked ten feet high, the unspoken connection and acceptance partygoers shared with one another, and the DJs standing at the helm creating the vibe and energy of the event instantly made an impression on him that has never faded.  

The West Coast sounds of Donald Glaude, Wicked Records, DJ Dan, Hardkiss Music, Jeno, Grayhound Recordings and Garth were some of main influences early on.  Digging through the import section at the music store every week to find CDs and learn about DJs released on labels like Renaissance Records, Ministry of Sound, and Global Underground quickly grew his exposure to the sounds and styles of international DJs.  It didn't take long for his friends to buy a mixer and pair of 1200s.  Starting out with a handful of records, that quickly got overplayed, he and his friends played, recorded, and critiqued each others mixes to slowly learn the art of mixing.

The transition to listen, shop, and visit record stores quickly became the new weekly routine and return back to the Big House to hear them get played out until the sun came up. His interest and passion to play, mix, and program tracks permanently set in.

Going out every week, keeping up with new releases & remixes, and seeing nearly every DJ live that released a mix throughout the early 2000s helped his ears tell his brain, which told his feet and body to move, what sounds resonate and helped form his style of chuggin', bass driven, tech house, progressive, and melodic techno.... basically the kind of song that makes you hunch over, eyes looking down and gets your ass to the ground.

Mayan Warrior is the result of a collaborative project that has united artists, craftsmen, photographers, designers, technologists, architects and musicians from Mexico City and Northern California. 

The project’s original intent was to present to the world the incredible ascent of contemporary Mexican electronic music while paying respect to the deep and ancient sources from which that visual and auditory culture had grown.


Both light and sound are curated by some of the world’s most prominent artists to transport participants to the very origins of the culture – and to a new understanding of contemporary electronic expression.

AND YES: Mayan Warrior is driven from Mexico City to the playa – and back – each year. It's a labor of love and we're glad so many people enjoy it.
