Joseph Jefferson, formally known as “Mr. Jefferson”, got his stage name from his grandfather who was a teacher in his hometown of Pensacola. His students, their parents and his friends all referred to him as Mr. Jefferson to honor him with the same respect Joseph demands as an artist. He began rapping at 8 years old, looking up to artist such as The Hot Boys, Outkast, Master P and No Limit. He has always been inspired by Juvenile, his favorite artist, especially his 400 Degreez album. Although with time his collection of favorites has grown, he always goes back and listens to that album from time to time for inspiration and motivation. 

Mr. Jefferson has always been serious about his artistry, but began taking his music career serious around the age of 17. After graduating high school he gave himself an ultimatum, make something happen with his music by 18 or join the military. And as faith would have it he booked his first show the summer before his 18th birthday. His first performance was at the Santos Party House in downtown Manhattan, New York. As an artist everything is a battle, staying focused, motivated, etc. “The hardest thing for anyone is staying true to themselves,” stated by Mr. Jefferson. In a constantly changing market, from music to business, he says he sees artist lose themselves and fall victim to the time and conforming to the social norm.
 In the future he wants to build his brand and become a household name. “I hope to make a difference with my music” says Mr. Jefferson. He has a lot of upcoming songs and projects in the works that he hopes are able to educate and help others at some point or another in his career. When listen to his music he wants you to reflect on life, the good, the bad, and the little things. Mr. Jefferson describes his musical style as a little unorthodox. His music is inspired by everyday living, stories of his past encounters, and relationships with others. His favorite song of his own “She L.T.D.” embodies so many thoughts and emotions that will forever hold the same meaning to him.
