Where Thieves Dare is a rock band from Memphis, TN that started as a songwriting hobby between Drew Cupples and Johnny Friedman - to just write and come up with some creative music to record that we could enjoy. After writing a few and recording some demos, the feedback came in and it was very positive. We had no hopes or plans, and to this day there remain none, but we decided to keep going and start piecing together something that resembles a band to see what happens. With our egos not too big and our expectations set not too high, Drew invited his friend Matt Herbert out to try singing and he kept showing up, so we let him record the vocals. As we got close to wrapping up the recordings, which would eventually become the first EP, we began looking for a bass player and drummer. That didn't take too long since we already knew some. Jeff Goodwin (bass) had played with Drew and Johnny in another band several years back and also played with Drew at church. Braden Friedman, who is Johnny's son and only 15, was going to be a sit in until a better more permanent option was found, but they quickly realized he had what it took... so they kept him around. And both of them filled it out and really helped things take shape. So here we are, ready to see what happens next. Hopefully we'll play some local spots; keep writing and recording... don't know, don't care as long as we're all having fun. So here's to the unknown!
