Togni is an internationally renowned DJ, producer and mixing engineer from Italy. 
It was Togni’s impressive involvement within the London rave scene that gained the attention of the Loose Lips family. 
Breathy gasps and thumping drums punctuate Tongi’s signature dark sound on ‘Expensive Taste’. 
The intense ever-expanding synth lines create an electro-inspired feeling, keeping you on the edge of your seat, itching to move, wanting more. 
Luckily, more there is. 
An equally explosive remix accompany it; a haunting take by experimental duo Torn Relics (Rommek & Aimee Mullen).

Musumeci tapes reissue, with their brutal body music plus, similar to DAF, CHBB and Liaisons Dangereuses, was one of the most acclaimed in the Mannequin Records 2013 productions. So we really happy to unearth for you 3 more recordings from their discography, all recorded live in 1985. 

Mauro Massaglia, founder member and lead synthesizer, describes the band’s aesthetic as “simple music, no solos, new sounds, all played at maximum volume possible.” Something that surely catch the attention of best DJs on earth, starting from TRAXX, the Chicago-based head of Nation Records, who redesign for Mannequin Records a raw live version of 'Tag Fur Tag' with what he described as a "ugly-tape Kode".

Massaglia recalls Musumeci’s live shows as multimedia performances of a confrontational stripe, mixing rough sound collage with provocative visuals. “Our intention was to involve the viewer with two senses: ear and eye,” he remembers. “We loved stupid old black-and-white movies or war images, Berlin in the May of ’45, the Vietnam conflict, corrupt Italians involved into massacres or scandals… in short, all the shit that the human race can produce.”

Lightex - Fade

Conrad Van Orton and Jheal sign the third release for Eyes Have It, 30D sub-label that, as usual, explores the darkest, coldest and even suffocating side of the techno spectrum.  

As it happened in the second release (‘Sei Tracce In Nero EP‘ by Reeko & Group), the high contrast between both sides gives sense to the album, giving it a strange but perfect balance, this time quite more oriented to the dance floor. It’s for sure that some people will think that CVO and Jheal might use elements that at first sight might be familiar but, let’s be honest, both have the ability to make everything sound very original.

On the A side Conrad Van Orton, an Italian producer with a lot of experience in techno and the most experimental electronics, elevates the listening to a sonic musical experience, literally. The three tracks, although ‘Dysfunctional Organic Device’ is probably the best example, are pure techno brutality, as highly raw, energetic and obsessive as they are obviously functional. Three true ‘monsters’.

On the B side Jheal, a face already known to the label thanks to his brilliant participation in ‘Close Encounters 002’, brings melancholy (‘150 Wreaths’) and tons of introspection (‘Our Fathers’) to the record. It is not easy for industrial techno to sound as emotional as when Alejandro manipulates it, something especially remarkable for such a young producer. Congratulations.

Lost In Ether | P R E M I E R E | Nørbak - It Will Not Consume Us (Kwartz Remix)[Soma Records]

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Torn Relics. The London-based duo contributes “When The World Could Not Sleep”, a powerful, meditative piece which comes off the new v/a compilation from Loose Lips.  The organization brings together a range of artists from across the world who they’ve connected with throughout the last 6 years of the LL journey. 

The wide range of music chosen echoes LL’s passion for unique music from all horizons. From raucous sound system music of many forms through to pertinent poetry, crazy industrial experiments, chilling ambience and eccentric breakbeats. Given the compilations diversity, LL has separated the v/a into volumes, with Vol. 1 covering more dance floor friendly sounds and Vol. 2 being more experimental. 

Further, proceeds from this release will aid be donated to the Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation. Grime pioneers Rapid and Slix (Prince Owusu-Agyekum and Ebenezer Ayerh) started this foundation in 2017 in order to help create opportunities for young people who have incredible talent but who are from a less advantaged background, thus potentially not having the chances to develop their skills to the fullest.

Having been inspired by the sounds that spawned from Ruff Sqwad, other Grime originals, and so many other resulting waves of UK music, it was so energizing to find out more about this amazing work that has evolved from it. They approach education and collaboration in an incredibly genuine and musically apt way - creating a bridge between grassroots ethics and industry ambition.
