The tunnel is a magical stage and im very grateful to have been asked to play the Saturday late afternoon set, before one of my biggest electronic-music inspirations, voices from the lake. I took the opportunity, considering the impeccable programming, open minded crowd, and perfect soundsystem to play a more slow building, delicate festival set - which felt very true to my real taste, and an homage to many of my deepest and longest standing inspirations. Let's head back to Fuse on January 4th for two hours of technical, percussive and ambient soul. Intertwining minimalist techno, UK-influenced bass, and polyrhythmic grooves, he kept the listener focused in dreamscapes as he reflected his influences from labels like Nous’klaer, Spazio Disponibile, and his distinct attention to unconventional time signatures or drum work. For this set I played on 4 CDJ 3000’s and a V10 mixer, using both of its internal effects processors. For every No Way Back set, and for most sets, I try to prepare new hardware remasters and edits of things that I think would be fascinating recontextualized in this setting. But for NWB, it is even more special, a peak moment, so I try to have new records I’m working on in the studio to test out. For this set that means the hardware mixes I’ve been working on for Torrvo and for Andy Toth can be tested, I’m working on this hardware mixing and remastering tone palate, so I spread that to some edits to give them a whole new power. Playing at No Way Back cannot be put into words, though we try every year, it really is inexplicable without experiencing it. It’s the environment you most want to be in, the space is totally transformed, the sound is dialed in, the audience is so ready, very giving and open, and the feedback you get is incredible. People are up for a ride – we start at the Tangent and end up going to the other side of the universe. Freedom within and without. There’s no place I’d rather be, so I thought I’d share this much sooner than we usually do. Enjoy the ride.

The iconic label’s founder and one of its longtime acts link up live in NYC for a celebration of dark techno and industrial textures.

Sonic Groove dates back to the rough-and-tumble Brooklyn of the early ‘90s, where brothers Adam X and Frankie Bones founded the first all-techno record store in America. Adam started the label out of the shop, and it’s gone on to become an international force in techno. Particularly over the last few years, Sonic Groove has had its finger on the pulse, releasing records as forward-thinking as they are hard-hitting from names like Henning Baer, Dasha Rush and Northern Structures. Adam X has called Berlin home for many years now, but as he returns to New York this week for a special Sonic Groove party hosted by The Bunker, he’ll stop by our studios here for a sit-down with Bryan Kasenic. Joining him will be Orphx, the longtime Sonic Groove-affiliated duo of Christina Sealey and Richard Oddie, whose latest album Pitch Black Mirror arrived earlier this month.
