Marcel Vogel implorou a sua mãe que comprasse um par de toca discos e um mixer, para que então pudesse gastar seu dinheiro com discos e trabalhar em lojas de roupas ao invés de virar um médico ou qualquer outra profissão “normal”. Essa obsessão acabou levando a criação da Lumberjacks In Hell, uma label com um público fiel, que tem no catálogo diversos hinos de verão que passeiam sempre entre o House e o Disco. Além de pai e label head, Marcel também dedica tempo para suas produções próprias e remixes, além de ter lançado recentemente um mix CD para a BBE entitulado de “The Sound of Lumberjacks in Hell”.

Marcel Vogel begged his mother two decades ago to buy him those belt driven second hand turntables and a Gemini mixer, so he could waste all his money on vinyl and work in clothes stores rather than becoming a doctor or whatever normal people do for a living. Lucky for us that obsession eventually turned into his label Lumberjacks in Hell with a loyal following across the globe. While Lumberjacks leads a secret life of it's own with an ever surprising catalogue of summer filling anthems, Vogel shares his time between touring, being a father and surprisingly much time in the studio with his production partner Tim Jules working on remixes for the likes of Phenomenal Handclap Band, Hans Nieswandt or Girls of the Internet. While his own productions combine throwbacks of R&B, Disco and Detroit House. And as if the label, production and DJ work wasnt enough, he also put together a compilation and mix CD for BBE titled The Sound Of Lumberjacks in Hell.

For this mix expect the trademark Lumberjacks in Hell sound: festive, feel good disco, soulful house fillers capable of lifting up dancefloors around the globe.

@marcellus-pittman is an integral part of the contemporary midwest and Detroit scene. The 3 Chairs ensemble, comprised of himself, Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite and Kenny “Moodymann” Dixon, have carried and expanded on the Detroit sound for nearly three decades, fusing house, techno, disco, funk, hip-hop and anything that makes the people dance. Pittman is responsible for the Unirhythm label, which is home to many of his solo productions. His DJ sets showcase a deep love of music and a master at work. Movement week is upon us, and on this episode of the Bunker NY Bryan Kasenic invites the Detroit stalwart to play a DJ set, pull some tricks out of his bag and chat about the city he has called home his whole life.

Our first Dimensions mix comes in the shape of an exclusive selection from Detroit rising star Jay Daniel. The Kyle Hall collaborator is one of the most exciting DJs to emerge in recent years, providing one of our favourite Boiler Room sessions of last year. 

He has exclusively delivered us a deep down and soulful mix in preparation for his much anticipated set at this summer’s Dimensions Festival. 

This mix is the first in our new series, where we will showcase the flavours of sounds explored at Dimensions through exclusive mixes from artists playing at the festival.

We will let the mix do the talking but be sure to check his mother (Naomi Daniel, is the voice behind Planet-E classics' "Stars" and "Feel the Fire,") on vocals the third track in!

For this episode we have the super talented Paris based artist, Alexis aka Aleqs Notal with his deeper selections.

Since a young age, Aleqs Notal has been a true vinyl enthusiast & coming from the Hip-Hop scene, he would go on to become a prolific mixer; notably becoming the Red Bull 3Style World Turntablist champion as "Dj Karve" back in 2010.
 The other side of Alexis career shifts gears into his brand of Deep House & Techno with atmosphere. His style can traverse through the vibes of Disco, Latin Jazz and Space or moods of pure Soul with the excellent use of percussion to control the groove flows. 
 
Since 2014, Alexis has released Gem EPs on C.C.B Recordings, Phonogramme, Visions, Finale Sessions, Sistrum & RDV; In addition to various appearances on the Paris Music Club compilations, he is also the first French DJ to play in Fela Kuti's Shrine. 
Alexis's self established Imprint "Industrial Light" features more of his exclusive Deep House delights. Its certainly worthy to explore...

 Alexis has shared stage with pioneers like Jazzy Jeff, Larry Heard, Patrice Scott, Mike Huckaby, Moodymann & so on…. He would also go on to command venues as a well known resident DJ at La Machine du Moulin Rouge & the Rex Club; in addition to making crowds dance with frequent shows at famous clubs like Concrete, 6B, Rinse France, Panorama Bar, Tresor, Fabric London and so many more have had the pleasure of Aleqs Notal in control of the floor.

What a damned year. No matter our particular angles or perspective, we can all at least agree on that much. “Unprecedented” in a two-way tie with the shrugging emoji for word of the year. A few highs and glimpses of empowerment, and several lows and mind-boggling low blows to contend with - obstacles masking opportunities, some moments of reflection and time gained, while many other things felt lost. 

One of the more remarkable aspects of 2020 was the sheer number of musical heroes and greats that have left this physical plane within the space of one year. Forces of huge influence, not only for myself but for countless individuals, music scenes, and artists from multiple generations. 

With this in mind for the annual wrap-up edition of the Greasy Listening mix series this year, while there was/is loads of amazing new and upcoming music to be shared and heard, it only feels just to pay respects and homage in memoriam to these many wondrous souls who poured themselves into their work over the last five plus decades, so we can forever be inspired and mesmerized by their greatness. 

While the selections may not be the most iconic/popular/rare or whatnot of each artist’s work, they are simply a few of my personal faves that fit the mix and are meant more as drop-in-the-bucket representatives of the incredibly extensive bodies of work that have been immortalized by these mighty creators (that also come highly recommended you dive into if haven't already).

So here it is: twenty pieces with timeless musical messages by twenty absolute legends that passed on in this most turbulent year of 2020. To the fallen stars, included in the set and not, Rest In Paradise - we offer our sincerest love and condolences to the families, and endless gratitude for the creative guiding light and healing power their music will forever bring us. 20 years ago Bryan Kasenic started The Bunker New York as an event series on New York's then-gritty Lower East Side. In 2014 he created a record label to provide an outlet for the work of friends, party-goers and visiting artists. Over the years, The Bunker NY has grown into an established institution which is well known for its steady output of high quality releases and its reputation as one of North America’s finest event series.
