"I was lucky to be growing up as a clubber in Edinburgh, Scotland in the 90's when it was blessed with some great clubs. Two of these in particular - the legendary techno club Pure and the unrivalled house club Tribal Funktion were huge influences on me, with both clubs bound together in the same location - The Venue (check the tracklist), a sweat-dripping, low-ceiling temple of chaos and creativity, now sadly no more.  Some of the tracks on this mix are old, some are newer but they all reflect these influences and the kind stuff myself and my friends might have been listening to either in style, in spirit or vibe. This is a party jam - a range of tracks that might've have been played at a house party surrounded by friends to propel them onto the living room dancefloor, or hype them up and get them out the door to a club. Volte-Face is the production name of Casper Clark, the man behind BleeD, London's go-to club night for experimental electronic music. Casper has also played an integral role in programming of London's more intimate and experimental venues, such as The Lock Tavern in Camden, Amersham Arms in New Cross and The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington, which thanks to him Inverted Audio hosted events in during 2012 and 2013.

Casper also helps curate music for an array of music festivals including Field Day, Beacons in Yorkshire, Donau in Austria and Unsound in Poland, he also helms London's experimental category for 22Tracks. Now in his second year operating as Volte-Face, it seems that 2014 has ultimately primed to produce a remix for Daniel Avery to be release on Erol Alkan's imprint Phantasy Sound.

It seems that 2014 has been 'the' year in which everything that Casper has worked for has been worth it. This mix is a summation of Volte-Face's musical scope and integrity, offering up a hour and a half of his past. Volte-Face has more material to be released in 2015.

What better way to kick off a new year than with a new project? Sure, podcasts are nothing new, but by now the Dekmantel family has grown to the point where we have a lot to shout about. The DJ collective, festival and label are all well established, but we feel we need even more outlets for all the great music we have from our extended family. As such, we are launching a new weekly series that will showcase exclusive mixes from our favourite friends and freaks, with Marcel Dettmann going first. 

Aside from being a supremely tall and long haired human being, Marcel Dettmann is of course one of the techno powerhouses behind Berghain. It is his long, seductive and firmly rooted techno sets that have made the Berlin club, and man himself, so hallowed around the world. Also a fine producer who lays down his own brand of concrete funk on labels like Ostgut Ton, 50Weapons and his own eponymous label, he inaugurates our series with a very special live recording then from New Year’s Eve 2014 at Berghain. The resulting 90 minute set is everything it should be - supple and seductive, then freaky and funky, then deliciously dark and increasingly weird towards the end, so enjoy the ride.

I try not to consider genre, but more the monochromatic moody and potentially hypnotic nature of the music. 

I am trying to get you to forget time - to be totally within the moment and lose modern society's overly hectic and unnatural hurried view of time. To connect the listener back to eternity, a state of time where no time passes.

We’re one mix away from 500 – and it’s time to jack.

Chris Finke has been an important part of the UK techno scene since the early 2000s, releasing music from Mark Broom, DJ Urban, Victor Simonelli and more on his Flux Recordings label and co-running London’s Split raves with Ben Simons (as well as the Split Radio Show). As a producer, he’s steadily released singles and EPs of his own music, mostly on Flux but with diversions to labels like Mote-Evolver and Hidden Recordings. In short, he knows how to make people sweat.

In 2013, he dropped the Finke name to focus on a pair of aliases: Bodyjack and He/at. As He/at, he’s self-released ripping techno records while also holding down a residency at crucial UK techno night Atomic Jam, but it’s been his Bodyjack work that has been most rewarding. As well as setting up a small ring of Bodyjack-related labels, he’s released music on Hypercolour, Unknown to the Unknown, Leftroom and Ultramajic – all labels that share Bodyjack’s love of house and techno music that’s educated and authoritative but totally unpretentious.

That’s also the case with his FACT mix. It draws from the gods (Johnson, Deeon, Tyrell, Falcon and, at one point, Jeremy Sylvester and Mike Millrain’s G.O.D. alias – see what we did there) and the best of the current crop (Peverelist, Kowton, DJ Haus), and is very clearly the work of someone who’s bought dance records for years, but it’s never less than a shitload of fun, with martial snares, organ riffs and instructions to work it all over the place. Bodyjack’s latest release, the self-released Throwdown EP, is out now.
