Bio - Born in Suburban Chicagoland and raised in Northwest Wisconsin, Steve Seuling (a.k.a. Centrific) anchored himself in Minneapolis since 1993. In a mostly-hidden, yet vibrantly evolving underground scene, Seuling started attending, curating, and DJing events in the mid-1990s. Underscoring his commitment for the Twin Cities’ massive bass bins, Seuling then in March of 1998 founded “Intellephunk”, his brand of parties that began at the now-shuttered Rockler Fur Building, drawing inspiration from those of his contemporaries (Woody McBride’s “Electric Disko”, Drop Bass Network’s Even Furthur). Centrific throws a weekly summer party called “Communion”, founded in 2007 alongside fellow Midwest native Dustin Zahn. Communion is an inclusive open-air day party, focusing on the psychedelic side of house and techno. Most recently, Centrific created an online Twitch stream entitled “Distant Future”, a platform where he invites local and international DJs to showcase their music and chat about their ideas for the future of the rave scene.  His dedication to preserving and protecting the local roots of the dance music community shows that, in many ways, he’s the lifeblood of Midwest techno.

Steve’s contributions and continued loyalty to Minneapolis is immense and self-evident. He embodies a fatherly role in both his day-to-day life and artistic practice. Seuling is grounded and approachable; a speaker-freaker with a wry sense of humor and an openness to connect with new and old friends. His DJ style explores a direct lineage to pummeling, aggressive Midwest techno and house, mixing with pointillist sonic precision that permeates his approach to his musical eclecticism. Centrific veers away from musical boundaries and expectations, while pushing further and further into that psychedelic headspace one can only call “the groove”.

With a long career stretching back to the early days of European techno, Electric Indigo has been ubiquitous. Under her alias, Susanne Kirchmayr has continued on her ascetic path and overcame colleagues who quipped that techno was the music of the past, with sets built on expertly crafted percussion loops and intelligent sampling behind the decks at just about every club you can name. For the latest Bassiani Podcast, the founder of feminist voice for change female:pressure manifests a dizzying and monolithic soundscape, yet another chapter in her impressive techno fable.

Haruka returns to the Podcast series with a menacing second call to battle. This one’s a live recording of his closing set at Bassiani back in May, a seven-hour beast that had everyone breaking a sweat. The Japanese phenom is a master of mood, he builds elaborate compositions inch by inch, infusing his tympanic formulations with strange psychedelic effects and exuberant breaks. Don’t expect them to pay off quickly though, these incremental trips are a reward for the truest connoisseurs of deep Techno. This year, the spanish techno legend Oscar Mulero will return to the stage at rural, and we are happy to share the recording of his closing set at “rural at New Acao” in 2022.

This three-hour raging techno set guided the audience to the most intense and deeper world in the otherworldly main floor of “New Acao”, a gorgeous Showa-era building overlooking the sea.

For the past fifteen years, Rotterdam-based DJ and producer Benny Rodrigues alias ROD has been carving out a lane of his own in the realm of contemporary techno. Piling up one massive release after the other for the likes of Axis, Figure, Soma, Klockworks or his own record label, Rod20, the Dutch artist has been laying the foundation to a catalogue driven by thrill-seeking curiosity and a vibrant desire to bring techno into a whole new dimension, just as the pioneers did. That epic-sized vision and deeply innovative breath infuse both ROD’s studio productions and sets, and his RYC podcast vouches for that very ground-breaking, limit-busting take on the medium. Flush with galloping grooves, mind-altering distortions and heavy-duty analogue funk, the present mix is as much an ode to the early scene’s unfading visionary impulse as it is a future-ready manifesto for our age.

There are few musicians who manage to explore the convergence between techno and experimental as successfully as David Letellier. Known as @kangding-ray, he has been producing for almost a decade, releasing his music exclusively on Raster-Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts. The aesthetic domains of these two labels epitomizes Kangding Ray’s complex sound—it’s an aesthetic that tests boundaries, evolving tirelessly in its exploration of texture, rhythm, and sound design. Letellier’s foundations in rock and musique concrete give his music a vitality and uniqueness that has won fans the world over, from discerning avant-garde–electronica listeners, all the way to devoted clubbers.

This set is a partial recording of a DJ set KR made last year in a club. Kangding Ray has long been a favorite at The Bunker and we're looking forward to having him join us at The Bunker at Good Room here in Brooklyn on April 28, 2018.
