Holy Smokes, we've just gone and done it! Claude Young on the Warehouse Manifesto mix series...

Detroit Techno Legend and my favourite techno DJ of all time providing the sounds for this month. My first experience of witnessing the greatness of Claude Young was back in the late nineties in Dublin where he made quite a few appearances and won over crowds with the greatest of ease. A true showman who brought the fun and funk to techno despite maintaining the raw edgy toughness of techno at the time. 

It's fair to say that Claude Young is an idol of mine and is one of the biggest influences on my DJing style. For me, copying what Claude Young did was the way to go! 

His flair for creating rhythms and bringing funk into his techno sets is unparalleled and his unique style is a show to behold. Anyone lucky enough to witness the two copy action (chopping and cutting)and crossfading with his mouth without ever missing a beat will understand what I'm rattling on about!

I almost forget that Claude Young is also a very accomplished producer. I was too busy in awe of his DJing skills to notice anything else!

Abby @Echiverri has extensive history as a musician, sound engineer, DJ and VJ. Her current trajectory started early in childhood when she was classically trained in violin, flute, piano and vocals, cementing music as a part of her daily life. In high school she picked up turntables and began collecting records, eventually moving to NYC to study recording engineering and perform in post-punk bands, and became a regular at Wierd and The Bunker at a very young age. Since then, Echiverri has devoted her professional hours to engineering, maintaining, and manufacturing audio equipment for studios and clubs around the world. Her debut record 'Ab Initio' is currently out on The Bunker New York's label and can be purchased on our bandcamp. This set features a lot of flanged synths, analog drums, and processed samples.  It was composed and rehearsed over a few days and then recorded in one take at her home in Queens.

I found this mixtape on a concession stand at a rave in LA in the mid nineties it was the first heard of him and I was really into this sound and buying lots of records related, it was the peak of nineties techno and I was also always hunting for tapes like this to study and better myself as a DJ. Over the following years I had quite a few conversations with Mike from his days at Record Time in search of the rare gems that I was having a hard time finding in LA. Years later Mike came to Los Angeles for the NAMM show and I put together a party and had him play, he stayed at my place I hadn't released any records yet and he kindly gave me production tips and shared some old stories about his days in Detroit sitting in my living room till the late hours of the morning. I am doing for him as I would like for anyone to do for me when i'm gone and share something positive to remember someone by.

I know many know Mike for his house music, I knew Mike as a Techno Dj from Detroit. Here i share a very rare Techno mix from Mike Huckaby I had this on repeat that summer, Enjoy !
