This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show features @donato-dozzy, one of the country’s most profound electronic music producers and DJs, internationally renowned for the hypnotic and manifold ways in which he can create deep, absorbing techno trips.

Dozzy first honed his skills at the mythical squat-slash-club Brancaleone in Rome, before moving to Berlin in the mid-aughts, where he elevated his signature style even further with his “Dozzy’s Night” residency at Panorama Bar. Since then, he has gone on to grace line-ups alongside esteemed peers, such as Marcel Dettmann, Jeff Mills, Surgeon, and his compatriot Marco Shuttle.

As a producer, Dozzy first began to make waves in 2004, and has since gone on to release a string of EPs and albums on labels such as Spectrum Spools, Tresor, or The Bunker New York. In addition, he also runs three record labels. Dozzy Records, launched 2006, @spaziodisponibile, established in 2016 together with DJ and producer Giuseppe Tillieci aka @neel, and his latest label @magacircemusica, together with the Spanish graphic artist and DJ @aliciacarrera. 

For Carhartt WIP Radio, Dozzy conducted a mix that gently immerses the listener into his rich body of work playing classics like “Gol” and remixes he has done for other artists, like the legendary experimental electronic group Cabaret Du Ciel. As we edge nearer to our 100th mix, we seek to Berlin for textural techno melodies from dutch producer and DJ Konduku aka Ruben Üvez. Having graced some of our favorite labels like Donato Dozzy's Spazio Disponibile, Nous'Klaer, Delsin, Midgar and more, Üvez has become a maestro in layering UK techno stylings with a European flavour, finding that perfect balance between space and drums. 
His wisdom in also finding tracks of this style have become an integral part of his DJ sets being incorporated beautifully to the point of losing yourself even in the more relentless parts. A journey to say the least that very few can put you on, displaying Üvez's approach that could be comparable to that of modern greats like Batu and Donato Dozzy. And that is what Konduku has done here on Phonica 99. Recorded live from a Midgar party in Berlin recently that transports you to that time and moment so alluringly, we have a chat to Üvez more about the concept and where his head was at during this set.

Hailing all the way from the central mountains of Colombia, Lopar ( @lopar_music ) brings deep and luscious sounds from the city of Manizales. A talented DJ in many genres, he navigates a range of styles and moods from ambient, dub and minimal to  deep & hypnotic techno & dnb. 

He began his career as a professional DJ in 2015 at Academia Decibel (Intelligent Division) in Medellin, Colombia and now is involved in local efforts as part of the "Natural" collective in Manziales to bring like-minded sounds and artists to the city, playing alongside talents like Anthony Linell & Polygonia.

To celebrate 20 years of building Labyrinths, we have decided to release one set from each of the last ten years. I've chosen ten timeless moments that both document the history of the event and provide a historical snapshot of underground electronic music over the past ten years.

We have chosen a broad range--from closing techno sets, to morning ambient sets, to experimental sets to close the night. Each set represents a different side of the event. Taken together, they present a portrait of a decade of music.

The Labyrinth 2014 - Donato Dozzy (closing set)

Erika has always explored the eerier corners of her native Detroit. She captures the empty space and late-night mood of the city in music that is deep and dark. For many years she has been a key behind-the-scenes figure who runs the well-regarded Interdimensional Transmissions label and has hosted plenty of her own parties. Her productions - either solo or with Brendan M. Gillen as Ectomorph - are rooted in techno and electro but explore everything from hard-edged grooves to spaced-out soundscapes. Erika also runs an educational platform for workshops, masterclasses and courses that help bring on the next generation. 

This week's mix draws on all that experience across 75 blistering minutes. It's electro from the off with haunting spaces, booming bass and elastic rhythms setting the scene for what becomes a storied selection. There are gritty and grimy warehouse sounds as well as slippery sci-fi workouts and plenty in between, all threaded together with the control of DJ who knows exactly where she wants to take you.

XDB is Kosta Athanassiadis – German by birth and in residence, with Greek parentage. He started djing in the early 90s and still plays vinyl only. Over the years his music was released on labels like Dolly, Harbour City Sorrow and Sistrum. In 2006 he started the record label Metrolux. There’s a refreshing lack of gimmickry to his approach – keeping it low-key allows him to be judged solely on the basis of talent. Enjoy!

A self-described "record digging psychopath," Eric Cloutier’s (@cloutier) standards are representative of the pre-social media craze and arguably the old adage of letting music speak for itself. Cloutier’s twenty-plus year commitment has been built upon his integrity as a DJ and authority as a selector. His reputation as an unequivocal, dexterous force is increasingly becoming one of note. He’s a DJ for whom quality - above all else - is the watchword. In addition, he is also the owner of the Palinoia record label (https://palinoiarecords.bandcamp.com).
