This set was recorded live at The Bunker at Output on February 8, 2014.  Mike Servito had the difficult task of closing out the night following stellar sets by Moritz Von Oswald, Legowelt, and Leisure Muffin.  As usual, he rose to the occasion and played a stellar set that kept everyone dancing well past the usual 6am closing time.

Abby Echiverri (@echiverri) is a multi-talented producer, musician, DJ, VJ and sound engineer based in Brooklyn, NY. 
Since discovering her music via "Ab Initio" (her 2018 EP on @thebunkerny), our collective have been followers and fans of Abby and the refined yet vibrantly contrasting qualities of her sound. 

Always looking ahead, Abby's explorative approach has a knack of finding intelligent interplays between elements; groove and psychedelic abstraction, lushness and angularity. But most compelling is the naturally hopeful quality that underpins much of her work, providing a sense of freedom and playfulness. 

Needless to say, we're very excited to welcome Abby onto the Patterns of Perception imprint for our third release - her "Deformation" EP. 

And so, Abby Echiverri's Patterns of Perception 113 is a celebration. For this, she has prepared a special hybrid live/DJ set which both channels and expands on the energy and spirit from her release. Bold, diverse rhythms thrum within a kaleidoscopic haze. Sleek energy escalates, approaching catharsis. A cosmic radiance shifts, glancing ever upward.

Q. How would you describe yourselves?

G: I’m the venue manager and a booker at Nowadays and grateful participant in independent New York dance music culture generally.
H: I guess I used to be a DJ?

Q. How long have you both been a part of the music scene in NY?

G: I came here from Dublin in 2011 but had to leave at the end of 2013 because of visa issues. After that I kept in close contact with friends here and I was lucky enough to be able to come back in early 2017 so it’s been just over 8 years now.
H: I moved here in 2007 very starry eyed, and the scene was much smaller then. When I starting throwing my own parties in 2010, it felt like everything was changing, which was exciting to be a part of. And actually that feeling hasn’t slowed down, even now.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.

H: This was recorded in April during our peak-Quar isolation and existential questioning. We imagined a soundtrack for cyclists and the lone stoned headphone wanderers who were doing the same types of thinking. It was Gareth’s first time making a mix and it was fun to find music we had in common for it, which was mostly sub-100bpm and above 160. It goes all over the place genre-wise but stays in the same mood space.
G: Yeah Aurora taught me how to use the CDJs and I used some of the early quarantine free time to go back over music I had always wanted to spend more time with but never really got around to. Doing this was a fun way to reflect on the kind of sounds I’m interested in and find out where they overlap with Aurora’s. Very, very grateful to her for showing me the ropes and to Juanita for the chance to stitch a few of them together.
