Episode 378 - Universally Hammered: Dracula

Everyone knows the greatest heavyweight matchups of all time. Ali v. Frazier, Tyson v. Holyfield, Marciano v. Walcott. But for us, one matchup stands above the rest. Dracula v. Dracula, Lugosi v. Lee. A quick look at the stats shows no obvious favorite. Lugosi has the stamina and endurance, as well as one of the meanest mugs in the game. Lee has the obvious height and reach advantage. Couple that with his stunning technicolor, and he becomes a pretty formidable foe. But then again, Lugosi can turn into a f***ing bat, so there's no telling where this match could go, but this week we intend to find out.

Problem was, the knock off was so much better in every way shape and form that when i finally got the original, it left me feeling like I had wasted my money.  But not with ANGRY ORCHARD HARD CIDER. Halloween is over, and just like every other year, we've got a wicked hangover, so the decorations are staying up for one more week. Normally we could handle it, even if we were a bit under the weather, but this year's been a bit of a challenge. Every time we go to take down our scarecrow, he's running off to pick flowers or scaring the mail man, and we have no idea where our killer clown is. We know he's around here somewhere. I told Jen this week that I was feeling a little burned out, she thought that I said "This week I feel like being a burnout." Classic bit of miscommunication. The problem is, she took that to heart, and showed up to the podcast faded out of her mind. Turns out, it couldn't have happened at a better time. I pointed out that this is, in fact, episode 420, and we both had a good laugh about it. Then she promptly forgot what we were talking about, and fell asleep in front of her microphone. We went to see our doctor recently, and she told us everything was looking good except our bones. She concerned that they seem quite brittle, so she told us to get more Derry in our diet. We said "that's weird, we've been watching every new episode". She seemed confused by that and replied "No I'm saying that you need to consume more Derry."  "Umm... yeah we get what you're saying. We know we're two episodes behind, but we'll get caught up."  Still more confusion. We're starting to wonder how she made it through medical school. "I'm trying to tell you that, with your history inactivity and over-indulgence, your bones are going to start turning to dust. You have to do the bare minimum, and simply consume more Derry." "Fine, we get it, Doc. We'll watch both episodes this week."  She asked us to leave. We don't know what her deal was, but by doctor's orders, we had a couple extra servings of Derry this week.

Happy Father's Day, everybody. Today we celebrate those special men out there who give so much of themselves for their families. The men who rid the world of evil with the swing of an axe. Sure, sometimes they may drink just a little too much, but who doesn't, right? Ok, maybe they lose their temper every now and then, and maybe their new friends are a bad influence, and have in fact been dead for several decades, but that doesn't mean we love them any less. I mean, I think we can all agree that being a dad is a tough job, so can we really hold that whole "Dad tried to murder us with a shotgun thing" against him. We don't think so. This week, In honor of those strong, selfless men, we grabbed some Not Your Father's Ginger Ale, and discussed some movie dads who may have let fatherhood go to their head just a little bit.

If there are two things in this world that go hand-in-hand, it's cats and space. When is the last time you saw a movie about a mission to the far reaches of the universe that didn't rely heavily on a cat as a main plot point? What would all of our favorite sci-fi movies be without the inclusion of many, many felines?
Ok, you caught us. The jig is up. We kinda back ourselves into a corner here. For this weeks episode, we already had the beer, a delicious Double IPA from Rohrbach Brewing Co. that goes by the name of Space Kitty, so we decided to take that name at face value, and instead of a movie about space cats, we watched a movie about space, and a movie about a cat.  So hunker down in your airlock, with your favorite scratching post... maybe some catnip, and prepare yourself for a deep space cat-astrophe.

EP 103 - A Deep Space Cat-astrophe

Fall is in full swing once again, and there is no better place to spend our favorite time of year than right here in Michigan. The muggy summer heat gives way to cool, crisp, Autumn air, we take walks with a thermos of hot apple cider (most likely spiked), and we can finally trade in our uncomfortable summer clothes for our killer new Lululemon yoga pants, and Ugg boots, which by the way, all three of us look absolutely stunning in. 
However, the one thing that brings people to Michigan from all over the country this time of year, is the changing of the colors. For a couple weeks every October, our millions of acres of lush green timberland, transform into a sea of fire that reaches across our entire state.
So, this week we decided to take another trip out to the forest to watch the colors change. Just in case we ran out of apple cider, we grabbed some Ghosts In The Forest American Wild Ale from The Lost Abbey, and headed out on one of our favorite hiking trails, which lead us to a tiny cabin in the woods that just happened to have a really nice tv and two forest themed horror movies. Weird how those things work out.

  Man, we finally get it. We finally understand what Boyz 2 Men was talking about in almost every single one of their songs. The pain of losing the one you truly love is devastating. After more than three years of Buzzed Kill bliss, J-Rog, the Sound Architect, and Producer/Engineer of our hearts, is with us for the final time. How do we say goodbye to what we used to have? Beer, we’re guessing, will play a major role in easing the hurt, but what will fill the massive hole that he is leaving in the show and our shattered hearts. Again.... probably mostly beer.
  This week, from our new studio, in honor of our brother, we grabbed some This One Goes To 11 Imperial Red IPA from Bell’s Brewery, some Johnny Walker Black, and said farewell the only way we know how. With a discussion about a movie that was the cinematic equivalent of our feelings about J’s departure. Not good.
