Porter Robinson changed the way we look at making music. He’s a huge inspiration to both of us. ‘Say My Name’ was a record that we listened to nonstop when it came out. It was a record that really changed a lot for us individually. For me (Dylan) it was a huge part of the reason why I fell in love with dance music. And for me (Kyle) it was one of the first songs that got me into the house/complextro genre, something that heavily influences the music I make today. it was a very bright night in los angeles. we were in the studio with our friend kwesi to write new music. leo was jamming on the piano and kwesi recorded some ad-libs to spark some ideas. all of a sudden kwesi came up with the ‘calm me back down’-line that everyone instantly loved. we stayed up late all night and recorded the full song. “Back Down” was born. when we listen back to the track we can still feel the creative energy that was in the room that night. hope you’ll like it.
