From celebrity deaths to political turmoil, it’s safe to say that 2016 has been one of the craziest years in recent memory. And to remind us about everything that went down—with plenty of venom and hilarious punchlines mixed in—Brooklyn rapper Bekay returns with his latest annual rundown, “2016 Year In Review.”

The ridiculously talented emcee goes in for nearly five minutes straight over the horns-fueled instrumental from Fat Joe & Remy Ma’s huge single, “All The Way Up.” And in doing so, Bekay references damn-near all of what happened in ‘16, from the Suicide Squad movie and its lead actress (Margot Robbie), to Marco Rubio sweating during the debates, to Pokemon Go taking over the mobile landscape.

Of course, there’s plenty of that aforementioned venom, too. It’s aimed squarely at the likes of President-elect Donald Trump, DC Comics’ fails at the box office (looking at you, Batman v. Superman, and a fellow Brooklyn native who blocked Bekay on Twitter (*cough*Talib Kweli*cough*).

Not one to stick to the negatives, Bekay shows love to those we lost this year, including Prince and Phife Dawg, while praising new releases from rap giants De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. Many times dreams can be an escape of sorts. A nightmare conversely can offer the polar opposite...a dream you wanna escape from. Dreamscape (Shot in a Western Massachusetts abandoned mental asylum) offers the latter. The horror-core track (laced by Marco Polo's menacing drums) is a reprisal themed record aimed at producers, promoters, blogs, rappers, friends & anybody else who has doubted, disrespected, slept on or overlooked the ambition, dedication & overall lengthy resume' of M-Dot. While the EMS crew front man sets his crosshairs at the aforementioned parties, the song also carries a mocking tone toward the common belief that a 'killer bravado" sells. Let the blood spill.....

Stuck in the depths of a dark alley, blocked by yet another breeze, hitting a stone wall, road sign ahead: Dead End.
Impasse. “Cul-de-sac”.
Hip‐hop. The original, some would say, official music of the late 20th Century Bronx.
Some say it has endured it’s fair share of distractions, detractors and defectors. Some say it has murdered itself, having been abandoned by its so‐called best men, those who have gone off in other directions, or who have, simply, just beat‐retired. Yet, there are plenty of Soldier Monks still out there, prepared to sweat it out in the Temple of Machinery and Mics.
Low Cut honored this cause four years ago, with his MPC crafted minimalist version of NY Minute and he’s back to ring the bells and unsheathe the samples!

The starting point of Dead End’s production remains the 90’s boom-bap, but the will to carry it even further brings it to its destination. By decorating it with rich samples flushed out after digging through vinyls pressed several decades ago, it is guided by a compass pointing deposits to the East. With sound quality inherited from a fastidious composition and mix works, using inspiration rather than just being a copycat, Dead End celebrates it without setting it up as a museum piece.

Picturing the beatmaker stuck in the depths of a dark alley, ended with a brick wall, is easy. But far from isolated in his Parisian basement, Low Cut has rung phones in New York, Baltimore and Detroit, rounding up the faithful. He
magnetized the hidden but sharp forces, and gained attendance of legends. The casting of Dead End : Ruste Juxx & Nutso, Dirt Platoon, Guilty Simpson, Torae, Rasheed Chappell and the stainless Masta Ace, among other beat crushers. Also starring DJ Duke, Nix’on, Topic and Ordoeuvre with their DMC titles crates, for a deep beatfight on bars scarified of scratches.Heavy atmosphere, martial beats and street soul, Dead End is also the final episode of the projects initiated by Low Cut, based on the model of a producer inviting various MCs.He will then replace his turntable needles, refresh his sample banks, and settle the BPMs of his productions on more abstract frequencies.

On the lead single off his forthcoming compilation LP, 'Timeless Music,' Long Island producer BP The Neckbreaker laces grimy strings and slapping drums for “Stacking Ammo,” a hard-hitting collaboration featuring Wu-Tang affiliates, Frukwan and 9th Prince.

The track represents the first we’re hearing from the beatsmith’s 18 track compilation album, which boasts a slew of notable guests including late rap legends Sean Price and Prodigy. And on “Stacking Ammo,” BP displays his affinity for crafting joints that perfectly match the tough talk and wordplay of the extended Wu family.

Frukwan (of Gravediggaz) and 9th Prince (of Killarmy) previously joined forces on the latter’s One Man Army album, and “Stacking Ammo” continues the tradition of these two sounding like they need to record a full album together…immediately. Their back-to-back verses are raw and full of quotables, all of which sound even better thanks to BP’s bone-chilling production.

Right off the heals of his newest video, hip-hop artist Rich Quick is releasing a remix for "Travelin' Man," featuring Reef the Lost Cauze and Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated Peoples.

"Travelin' Man" is produced entirely by Streece, a formidable production duo comprised of Stress and Chuck Treece, who have worked with mainstream artists from Gym Class Heroes and Ghostface Killah to LIL WAYNE and local notable Bahamdia, among others. 'Travelin Man' is off Quick's EP Sad Songz, due out this summer on Ben Frank Recordings.

Gang Starr Foundation member and rhymesayer Hannibal Stax along with Brooklyn’s leading boom-bap purveyor Marco Polo have teamed up for a collaborative project entitled Seize The Day (the duo’s mixtape/precursor, The Honorable, was released in December of 2012) which is now available via Soulspazm Records.

Originally discovered by DJ Premier, Stax has been a staple on NYC’s underground scene for years and was featured on two Gang Starr LP’s and numerous tracks that were lost in major label recording vaults. Although Stax is undeniably a veteran, Seize The Day represents his long-overdue solo debut.
