When DJ's were DJ's not just props on a stage with serato and the sync button. lol Don't get me wrong I had to move to the Dark side of Digital due to the shift in the way music is sold nowerdays but I love my 1200s a mixer n some big heavy lumps of black vinyl.

@RalphLawson from @2020Vision made his Sub Club debut on the very same night as a young Glaswegian DJ called Domenic Cappello in 1992.  He has since been a regular guest over the years while Domenic went on to become the resident DJ for Subculture. It seems fitting that both 2020Vision and Subculture celebrate 20 years in the game in 2014 as they have both stuck to their guns and consistently provided people with sounds from the underground over those years. 

This mix was recorded the week before 2020Vision brought their Content tour to Subculture on October 4th with Lawson and Ejeca taking over the controls. Lawson dives into his memories of times spent in The Subbie over those years and pulls out a selection of bona fide classics that have rocked the club. Recorded in one take to get a live feel. About the CD:
002 of the Classic Mix CD Series and yet another absolute stand out classic. After getting into house at around 15, I guess my only source of info was Danny Rampling's seminal LGDP (Love Groove Dance Party) Saturday nights on Radio 1. However I can't remember Carter getting much coverage on there, yet he, much like Danny Tenaglia seemed to have a level of legend unlike most. This CD cemented my love of house music with an all might smash in the face. The tempo, the bass, the disco, the filters, and fucked up vocals... this was heavyweight. Nothing could compete at the time. I'll always remember driving to college with my 2 nerdy class mates and insisting they played this CD in the car. I'm raving in the back and they are like "What the fuck is this shit, turn it down!". It's with immense pleasure that DJ's like Sneak and Carter seem to be booking all the massive clubs and parties again. I'm not so keen on the whole 'I'm a House Gangster' vibe... but this is as bad as it gets.

002 - Mixmag presents - Derrick Carter 'The Cosmic Disco' (1997)

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
