Pierre wuz on a serious roll with his Wild Pitch sound in tha 90'z... being played by NYC'z finest Junior Vasquez @ the original Sound Factory 2 this Kid in Florida by tha name of Manny Cuevas who educated thiz state with those soundz Pierre created. 
Pierre wuz also very kind 2 give me unrelease joint'z 2 play on my then radio show on 91.5 FM WPRK in Orlando, FL. Not 2 mention exclusive & live mixes from Simon'z in Gainesville & Club Firestone In Orlando.

DJ-Kicks ~ Mixed by Carl Craig [1996]

I'm very honoured to bring you a recording of a live Nicky Holloway set way back from '88, which I believe is from a night called 'Devil May trip'.
The night was a collaboration between Nicky's 'Trip' night which he ran at The Astoria, and group of guy's who ran some amazing parties around the Uxbridge/Bucks area west of London around that time and before with their nights called 'Devil May Care'.

The tape is a real insight to the summer of '88, and personally my mind was officially blown the first night I walked into Trip at the Astoria, and was officially obsessed from there on in (like so many others).

This tape was kindly passed on to me for uploading by George Georgiou as   featured recently on his Instagram page. 
Originally recorded by Nicky H for George back in '88 following persistent nagging by George back at the time, and recently rediscovered amongst a crate of cassette tapes. 
'A reminder of some blinders' was one of Nicky's fave strap lines for his flyers, as he used to tell George. 

George has designed artworks for so many legendary clubs/nights which include Trip, Sin, Shoom, Special Branch, The Milk Bar, RAW & Velvet Underground to name just a few! 
As Dave Dorrell once said..."George Georgiou's unmistakable art - bold, minimal, primary - splashes electrically through London's nightlife story".

*Please note at 46.34 mins the A-side finishes, & B-side begins...hence the gap.

On a personal note, I would like to thank George for trusting me with this tape. I was a member at Trip, Sin & went to many a Nicky Holloway party way back before the acid house explosion hit these shores, with his 'Doo's' nights' and numerous times seeing him play at Eddie Gordon's Slammer party's in an old rough biker pub (Red Lion), playing alongside Pete Tong, Dave Dorrell & Giles Peterson (downstairs) before they hit the big time, all in a run down industrial part of North Kent circa mid 80's...happy sweaty days.

I had intended to keep these recodings to myself, But thats just selfish and I cant do it. Heart on my sleeve now, But for me, DiY were always at their best on their second or third night in. this recording lives up to the spirit of this and is just incredible. 6 hours and still going strong. what more can yo ask for. The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

Diy free-party crew 88’-99’ need  I have to say any more…I’ve matured musically over past 8 yrs which was the last time I listened to any house music in any kind of block listening. It went to head and I burned myself out I guess  to much of a good thing cracked me. 
           So coming out of retirement I now feel re born thx to oxfords simple nights at bullingdon cowley rd oxford. And a gig request at esp jo’burg( due to my spine bak breakages that git cancelled which was the reason I came out of retirement like) so I went to see dj Chloé Robinson @ Simultaneously les production night, Bullingdon arms OX4, and this drive me to drag my cd satchels out and my vinyl cases get sum dexs highjack a 4channel mixer off my dad,(rock&r I’ll dj) and got myself re going everything sat on boxes they came in anything just to get the vinyl’s spinning yeah!!! This was April 23 and my accident was may 23’. 
       so im re learning with better mixing styles and effect-usage, digital sampling ￼￼but at the heart of it all is my luv for DiY the ethos the music the parties being there when it waa all happening getting to know the family well and feelings the losses very deaply when two members left our mortal-coil, god bless Pete and Simon thankyou for all your music and encouragement.
     So I’m experimenting better recording and production softwares that have developed since I last used them… so let’s see what happens ( big thankyou to all the diy family and S4g/DiY disks).

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
