About the CD:
So back in the day Deep Dish were one of those mythical dj partnerships we didnt get to see too much in the UK but were held up there with the likes of Danny Tenaglia and of course the UK god's that were Sasha and Digweed. Label bosses of the excellent Yoshitoshi records and regular faces on the legendary Global Ungerground cd's. Although this disc doesn't go down as an all time favourite for me it does define the late 90's and some great times clubbing which is certainly enough to get into the series.

About the CD:
For the 20th episode of the Classic Mix CD Series we asked friend of the show and fellow north east lad Mr Ian Blevins to recommend his favourite all time classic disc. Being one of the most talented selectors and dj's you will likely ever hear... Ian came back to us with what is a truly exceptional 'Choice' and it stands out to him simply by being the most outrageously good CD he always remembered. We've played this 4 times already and see where he's coming from. It features tracks such as Mission Control's 'Outer Limits', the dark lyrics of Tony Cook's 'On The Floor', the outrageously fun Hugh Masekela's 'Don't Go Lose It Baby' and the famous 'The Whistle Song' by Frankie Knuckles.

You can catch Blev closing the summer season at his We Love, Space residency in Ibiza where he spins on the Premier Etage every weekend. As well as a selection of other gigs around the island. Outside of the summer you can find him running his excellent 'That Old Chestnut' night in Newcastle as well as gigging all round the world. For this episode we showcase Global Undergound arising from the underground into the huge success that it was moving into it's teens. For their 14th release we are taken on a progressive tour of Hong Kong with John Digweed, an awesome CD which was much loved by man. Massive shout out to James Wilson of Newcastle for sorting this, and also out to Michael McDonough from Sunderland for his efforts too. Of whom Digweed was a massive inspiration for and are both still to this day, huge fans.

I'm sure they aren't the only ones. So as always, turn it up... and enjoy the mix.

It's hands down one of the greatest mix CD's of all time, a double pack of Sasha at his absolute peak, he was untouchable, worshipped like no other and unrivalled around the 1996-2000 era in the majority of opinions. It defined a period of clubbing that had 50 Sunderland dance heads on a bus filling up half of the main room at Sasha's, Craig Richard's and Lee Burridge's 'Tyrant' night, at the Bomb in Nottingham. Which still holds strong as the best clubbing experience for most of us. It was legendary times, and this is a legendary mix CD.

On May 4, 1992, Sasha performed at Mixmag's Club Tour event series in Rotherham.

To mark 30 years since the legendary set, the long-lost mix has now been remastered after a copy was discovered in someone's garage just last year.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
