To celebrate our 30th episode, we are very honoured to get a recommendation from a Dj that’s played a huge part in the house music scene for over 20 years and someone who’s had a massive influence on myself, house heads around the world, and the CD’s that we feature on this site

After a famous trip to ibiza in the late 80’s… Danny set up his legendary Shoom night in London, which kicked off the rave and acid house scene in the UK. He’s helped cement house music culture in Ibiza, being a key figure in it’s growth on the island. But many know Danny through his radio shows… where he started out at Kiss FM and went onto lead radio one's weekend roster alongside Pete Tong. His Love Groove Dance Party show was the soundtrack to many people's saturday nights and I speak on behalf of thousands, to say it was an pleasure and an education to tune in each and every weekend.

He's had countless mix cd's over the years, some of which we've already featured on the site. But today, he's recommended the Decade of Dance CD, mixed by himself and released on Circa records in 1999. As it represents his favourite tracks throughout the 90's and is full of the gorgeous vocals and feel good house music Danny is know for.

So thanks again for everything Mr. Rampling. We really can't thank you enough for giving us all the amazing music and memories over the years.

051 - MOS presents 'Sessions Nine' mixed by Eric Morillo - Disc 1 (1998)

With the scene and stage having been set by Herbie Saccani at Hacienda NYE at The Albert Hall, the one true innovator Marshall Jefferson took to the stage in the run up to midnight at the event, the first up of trio of US DJ legends performing that evening.

Given an hour to play the best of MJ’s modern and classic working it house music, his stylings include syncopated vocals and such tricks as he begins with some deep downbeat dirty grooves, punctuated by strong female vocalsm following an anthemic New York party style  for the night with tight us club material. 

Moving towards electric dubs and oldschool samples with the bumping groove of Mark Knights and  Martin Ten Velden Remix of the space aged “In The Beginning”, a change of pace comes with what many people have said was their highlight of the night Joes Smooth’s “Promised Land” with a long mix out into the charging piano dub of Marshall’s own classic “Move Your Body”, weaved in and out by the very hands that produced it.

Continuing along with the theme with a couple of classics, the extended vocal intro of C And C Music Factory’s anthem “Pride (A Deeper Love)”, Strictly Rhythm’s “Deep Inside” by Harddrive, Marshall then takes things more Balearic with Junior Jack’s re-working of Dajae’s “Everyday My Life” before taking things deep and disco to the end of his set with Adeva Vs Nathan Rivers “In And Out (Of My Life).

With MJ handing over to Frankie Knuckles at midnight, The Jackson Sisters “I Believe In Miracles” gets a room shaking run out before Marshall takes things to the bridge with a Basement Jaxx cut, “Samba Magic” from the Summer Daze EP.

Relocation across the ocean into England in the early 90’s Tony Humphries immediately gain the respect of the house music abroad by acquiring a residency at the already famous Ministry Of Sound. In the meantime his mixes were already taking the tour of every major radio station from Kiss FM to Ministry Of Sound Radio where his residency lasted for four years. The end of the 90’s era and the beginning on to 00’s see Tony in DJ Mag’s top 100 in the 15th position and eventually in May 2002 he mixes one of the first Fabric infamous compilations, Fabric 04.

With today’s mix from Tony Humphries we relieve the passing of the disco era and step right through to the magic of Paradise Garage and other memorable venues, at least with our imagination...

On March 31st 2014 we lost the Godfather Of House Music, Frankie Knuckles. To celebrate his life and music we present two previously unheard mixes, both recorded in 2011. The first mix was recorded live on the turntables at a special event in Shoreditch, London. The second is a studio session from the same year, showcasing his unique talent as a DJ, producer and remixer.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
