DJ and producer, Terry Farley heads back to the 'second summer of love' and celebrates some of the biggest Acid House tracks, 25 years on.

Along with Andrew Weatherall, the duo started the now notorious Boy's Own fanzine in 1986, which commented on the slang, the parties, the tunes and the humour of the acid house days, and which also lead to the creation of the label Junior Boys Own. This imprint specialised in dance music and put out records by Orbital and Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers, which celebrates 15 years this year.

Terry began making productions with Andy Weatherall, Hugo Nicholson and Pete Heller under the name Bocca Juniors. He later teamed up with Pete Heller and has gone on to re-mix many of the world's leading artists and singers: everyone from U2 to New Order; to the Happy Mondays and Primal Scream at the height of Balearica. He has also produced Kylie Minogue, The Farm and M People.

My new DJ mix is part of REVERIE. The shows' ethos is to create a home-listening experience. It took me 3 months to prepare & research, spending all my spare time shortlisting around 500 tracks and then whittling that down to create a set of 2 hours. To my surprise I managed to get a first draft completed within 12 hours on Saturday 22nd August (all that time prepping and it only took a day to get my initial vision in physical form). It comprises of around 40 tracks, so a track every 3 minutes on average. That wasn't the final product though as I have spent every day last week editing it, changing small parts to create something I am more happy with, although the original tracks selected and order of play did not change. 8 drafts later and on Friday 28th August I was finally happy with the set. It truly is a labour of love and something I have always had in the back of my mind but never attempted to bring into fruition. I have never attempted to create a mix on this scale before. My attitude has always been all in or don't bother and this mix needed my full attention. It has stressed me out like you would not believe, even affecting my appetite for 2 days this past week. It has always been on my mind these past 7 days, hence the number of edits and drafts made. It is something I do not want to attempt again, well, not for at least a number of years anyway.
There is lots of dialogue used from various sources so I hope you have fun recognising and guessing where each sample comes from.
I would really like some 'honest' feedback. Maybe I have over-thought it, who knows, so your comments are welcomed. There are a lot of knowledgeable people who I respect and hold in high regard; people who have inspired me on my musical journey with their DJ set creations, Youtube track posts in groups, but especially on Saturo over the years and most notably on Residents Days when something leftfield was always on the cards.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
