About the CD:
I had to share another mix from Roger Sanchez to pay some respect to another dj who, at his best was 'the best dj in the world' in my eyes. As mentioned in the other cd's write up, his US and more importantly... New York city sound was so unquestionably addictive, unrivalled in its head bobbing ability and everyone on the floor vibes. I always remember one moment in the gents at Middlesborough's Sugar Shack when a seemingly innocent clubber said 'Who the hell is this DJ?!' to which someone replied 'Roger Sanchez'. This second CD shows this clubbing power and is arguably his best mix on a disc, but I'm happy for someone to recommend others. Sadly his selections have lost the NYC flavour of yesteryear but the main still needs representing in 'The Classic Mix CD Series'. S-Man... we salute you.

New episode... 026. This CD is from Tyrant aka Craig Richards, Lee Burridge (& occasionally Sasha). The disc was released in the year 2002 on via Fabric and holds special memories for the 40 of us on the bus heading down to The Bomb in Nottingham each month, a tiny basement club with white walls, low ceilings and just a red and blue strobe light (if I remember correctly). At the time... this party was without doubt the one to be at in the country and arguably the world. The trio created a dubby, sexy sound which went onto create some of the most respected underground dj careers in the world. Awesome music and great times indeed.

This CD was the first of the 'United DJs of America' collections I ever bought and I always remember the haunting intro than opens up into the rolling Sanchez loop with quintessential S Man bass drop. This is what Roger Sanchez sounded like and every club he played at was on fire. This is the 3rd CD from him in our Classic Series... and he's there for a very simple reason, this sound made you dance more than any other.

With the opening track 'The Flame' by Fine Young Cannibals then Green Velvet's 'The Stalker', this CD sets the pace right from the start and keeps going. The second last track is an all time favourite... Roger S presents The Deep - 'Vibe'. A truly relentless mix CD showing Sanchez at his very best. So turn it up... and enjoy the mix.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
