A series of new mixes from The Classic Mix CD Series. _SESSIONS brings you choice cuts from our friends, family and maybe a few special guests along the way. Sharing our own personal take on dj mixes which we've grown up listening to, and sometimes doing ourselves. More often than not, these mixes aim to contemporary selection of our favourite tracks both old and new.

Late Nite City is the latest project from @georgeSmeddles, Danny Langan and Josh Arise. It represents an expression of their different tastes and styles of music, expect an eclectic range of releases in the near future. 

For this mix we wanted to showcase a selection of the flavours that inspire us, along with the lead track from our debut EP ‘Everybody’ and a forthcoming remix due out in September on To The Rock. We hope you enjoy ❤️

The first in a series of new mixes from The Classic Mix CD Series...  _SESSIONS brings you choice cuts from our friends, family and maybe a few special guests along the way. Sharing our own personal take on dj mixes which we've grown up listening to, and sometimes doing ourselves. More often than not, these mixes aim to contemporary selection of our favourite tracks both old and new.

For the third instalment of the new _SESSIONS series we invited old friend Eddie Leader from Hudd Traxx for what is a mix of the highest house calibre. We originally met in the early 2000s in our student years, djing at our local party and since then Eddie has gone on to run a successful label, Hudd Traxx for over 12 years now and dj all around the world.

The label has received worldwide support from DJ's like Luciano, Loco Dice, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Josh Wink & more. Hudd Traxx music has been licensed to various compilations including Ministry Of Sound, Fabric & OM. If that's not house music royalty we don't know what is.

SESSIONS_04 comes from friend of the show, Antony Daly aka 586 of the most excellent 586 Records in Newcastle, England. We've actually had this on the iPod for years but Tony has very kindly offered it up again for a re-airing. It really it quite seminal stuff. Be sure to call into 586 Records when you're in town and here's a few words from the man himself...

'Recorded, late into the Night, January 2003. A live, one hit mix via Suade's Studio in Sandyford, Newcastle upon Tyne. A personal soundtrack to a difficult time in my life. Poor health and unrequited love. Hopefully, the lyrics in these great songs and the overall mood of the mix, reflect that. Enjoy and thanks for listening'.

For the 5th instalment, we hooked up with Dubai's number one hat wearing, vinyl addict... Shadi Megallaa. He's got links to some of the city's finest musical happenings, such as the immensely good Analog Room (which is nothing short of a Dubai institution) and also runs the Ark to Ashes label. This mix called... 'Less is More' is over 15 years old, yet remains one of his favourite personal selections. We agree, it's exceptional. Many thanks fella!

Some words from Shadi:
'Less is More is my 2nd proper mix from back in the early 2000s. The 1st one being a mix called Impulse. It was recorded on a Philips CDR 775 Recorder. Back in those days there were no daws or digital recording. The mix was recorded in real time on a cd. One mistake & you had to throw away the cd and start all over.  I guess you can feel that tension in the mix & hence why it still sounds good almost 15 years later. Hope you enjoy it.'

St Germain, France

'St Germain' is the stage name of Ludovic Navarre and based on the story of the Count of St. Germain, a mysterious and eccentric man from the 18th century who claimed to be several hundred years old.
St Germain is among the leading French masters to have established the 'French Touch': the 'French Traxx EP' and 'Motherland EP', both released in 1993, introduced his style: a mix of deep house, jazz and lounge; sampling and real instruments playing side to side.

Navarre's album Boulevard was released in July 1995 and has sold over one million copies[4] worldwide. His United States debut, Tourist, was released in 2000 and sold 300,000 copies in the USA and four million copies worldwide.[4] Bob Marley, Toots & the Maytals, Miles Davis and Kool and the Gang are among Ludovic's early influences. He composed his first work under the name of Sub System with friend Guy Rabiller. He has released EPs under a number of aliases, among them Deepside, LN'S, Modus Vivendi, Nuages and Soofle.

St Germain is not associated with the Saint-Germain-des-Prés Café compilation series, though his song "Deep in It" is featured on its "Volume 1".

His song "Rose Rouge" was featured in the official movie trailer for Joss Whedon's 2013 Much Ado About Nothing.

His eponymous album, released on 9 October 2015, was recorded with the participation of African musicians, the album features traditional Malian instruments such as kora, balafon and n’goni, that mingle with electric guitars, pianos, saxophones and electronic loops. The first single, “Real Blues”, sets the voice of Lightnin’ Hopkins to the beat of wild, fiery drums and percussion.

The original single sleeve is decorated with a 3D mask conceived by Urban Art creator Gregos, known for his smiling and frowning faces stuck on walls throughout Paris and Europe.

St Germain was included in the line-up for Coachella 2016.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.

About Gareth:
