Faith 025: Cevin Fisher guest mix

Ahead of our appearance on the 8th October at Defected Malta where we host a house foundations (86-96) stage, Stuart Patterson has compiled a mix of some Faith favourites from the period.  100% vinyl it takes in early vocals from Intense, Tammy Banks and Velma Wright, deepness from Precious and Swing 52.  Darker and tribal sounds from Funky Green Dogs and Kiwi Dreams, a touch of wild pitch from DJ Pierre in his Phuture Scope guise and a drop of acid from The Endless Poker. Plus plenty more early house joints that help shaped the house music phenomenon  that still stands strong today.

For the third instalment of the new _SESSIONS series we invited old friend Eddie Leader from Hudd Traxx for what is a mix of the highest house calibre. We originally met in the early 2000s in our student years, djing at our local party and since then Eddie has gone on to run a successful label, Hudd Traxx for over 12 years now and dj all around the world.

The label has received worldwide support from DJ's like Luciano, Loco Dice, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Josh Wink & more. Hudd Traxx music has been licensed to various compilations including Ministry Of Sound, Fabric & OM. If that's not house music royalty we don't know what is.

SESSIONS_04 comes from friend of the show, Antony Daly aka 586 of the most excellent 586 Records in Newcastle, England. We've actually had this on the iPod for years but Tony has very kindly offered it up again for a re-airing. It really it quite seminal stuff. Be sure to call into 586 Records when you're in town and here's a few words from the man himself...

'Recorded, late into the Night, January 2003. A live, one hit mix via Suade's Studio in Sandyford, Newcastle upon Tyne. A personal soundtrack to a difficult time in my life. Poor health and unrequited love. Hopefully, the lyrics in these great songs and the overall mood of the mix, reflect that. Enjoy and thanks for listening'.

For the 5th instalment, we hooked up with Dubai's number one hat wearing, vinyl addict... Shadi Megallaa. He's got links to some of the city's finest musical happenings, such as the immensely good Analog Room (which is nothing short of a Dubai institution) and also runs the Ark to Ashes label. This mix called... 'Less is More' is over 15 years old, yet remains one of his favourite personal selections. We agree, it's exceptional. Many thanks fella!

Some words from Shadi:
'Less is More is my 2nd proper mix from back in the early 2000s. The 1st one being a mix called Impulse. It was recorded on a Philips CDR 775 Recorder. Back in those days there were no daws or digital recording. The mix was recorded in real time on a cd. One mistake & you had to throw away the cd and start all over.  I guess you can feel that tension in the mix & hence why it still sounds good almost 15 years later. Hope you enjoy it.'

Great to connect with Pete Robison for our 17th SESSIONS mix. Being a young graphic design student in the late 90s the Promise flyers were always high on the agenda to check out and Pete being resident, his name was one that sunk in. We attended many a time, it was a more techy, newer sound on Fridays for Promise.

Pete Robinson started off DJing at the now legendary Foundation nightclub in Newcastle, for Promise. He then went on to produce music as one half of techno outfit Bigger than Jesus and played venues all over Europe, including Tresor in Berlin, Le Batofar in Paris, Zoo Project in Ibiza, The Cross in London and Sankeys in Manchester. This mix was recorded live at House Disciples in Newcastle and shows Pete's deeper side.

GarethisOnit / Mode 7:
Digital creative type, gamer, music lover and occasional DJ. Currently living in Dubai after setting sail from Sunderland in 2010.
