first heard this guy live in the early 2000s... had a sound and style all his own.... even back in 95....

DJ and producer, Terry Farley heads back to the 'second summer of love' and celebrates some of the biggest Acid House tracks, 25 years on.

Along with Andrew Weatherall, the duo started the now notorious Boy's Own fanzine in 1986, which commented on the slang, the parties, the tunes and the humour of the acid house days, and which also lead to the creation of the label Junior Boys Own. This imprint specialised in dance music and put out records by Orbital and Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers, which celebrates 15 years this year.

Terry began making productions with Andy Weatherall, Hugo Nicholson and Pete Heller under the name Bocca Juniors. He later teamed up with Pete Heller and has gone on to re-mix many of the world's leading artists and singers: everyone from U2 to New Order; to the Happy Mondays and Primal Scream at the height of Balearica. He has also produced Kylie Minogue, The Farm and M People.

About the cd:
Taking it with back with this CD, another icon of the shelves at HMV. I remember the name 'Hard Times' burning itself into my memory, it was just sounded quality as a 17 year old kid. That alongside 'That important house guy from America called Todd Terry'. The CD was a double pack which basically recorded his set live, it's even got the MC at the start shouting out in a heavy Yorkshire accent, haha awesome stuff.

Special shout out to the man like Nick Sneddon for helping with this one. Keep them coming mate, so much good stuff to share and bring back to everyone. Thanks again!

This is a digitised copy of a tape I picked up in 1993, when David Morales played at the Hacienda 11th birthday party. I was actually there that night, Morales played in the basement (not usually open at the Hac) from 4-6am, while Frankie Knuckles played in the main room.

Stripped to the waist, wearing a skull cap & tattooed muscles, Morales played street tough New York City house music, and there's lessons in here for modern DJs. I know this mix off by heart, and re-listening to it 21 years later, I can say it's still fresh. 

This particular night at The Hacienda has gone down in legend - for the wrong reasons. The club was full of local gangsters, taking watches from wrists and starting fights. These were the 'gunchester' days, you had to keep your head down.

Listen to the mix - at the end the record abruptly ends, starts again and then ends. This was when Morales was being mugged by a pack of 'scallies' - I myself witnessed them hit him on the head with a glass, lean over the decks and take his vinyl.

This episode was written up in Peter Hook's excellent book - 'How Not To Run A Club'. Apparently after the incident Morales said "you don't pay me enough to bleed"....

Luckily you can now enjoy from the safety of your own home!!

On March 31st 2014 we lost the Godfather Of House Music, Frankie Knuckles. To celebrate his life and music we present two previously unheard mixes, both recorded in 2011. The first mix was recorded live on the turntables at a special event in Shoreditch, London. The second is a studio session from the same year, showcasing his unique talent as a DJ, producer and remixer.

606 - Paul Trouble Anderson 'Trouble On The Dancefloor' - Disc Two (1997)

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
