What Are You Leaving Behind

In their early days, The Clews Brothers were originally known as CrypticClews and then The Carmichaels. 
Around 1985 they produced a number of demos that attracted interest from major record labels and also got played on local radio.
Fast forward a number of years, and after a later spell in Glasgow bands including Pure Red Iguanas, Carbon 14, The Futureins and The Shards, it became clear that both Billy and Michael wanted to start writing and recording their own songs again.
As a result, The Clews Brothers reformed in 2016.
Since then, they are delighted to have released five home-produced albums in the usual formats such as Spotify, Bandcamp and iTunes:
Colours Must Fade (2018); Move Along (2022); Blue Symphony (2023); Lost in The Mists of Time (2024); and Busy Doing Nothing (2025).

In some respects, the songs are a breath of fresh air as they have a home recorded charm with slightly rough edges here and there.
The approach to the music is that it is more important to get new songs heard rather than being held back by worrying about achieving top-of-the-range production values.
Hopefully you will agree with the guys that it is better to achieve an acceptable state of imperfection rather than being overly polished for the latest playlist.

The Clews Brothers are also proud to announce the release of their latest single, 'What Are You Leaving Behind'. Versions of the song can be heard here on Soundcloud. The song will also be available on all major streaming platforms from 29th October 2025.
The new track has a retro feel that reflects some of the band's major singer-songwriter influences; all performed with a distinctly modern voice.
'What Are You Leaving Behind' is the next step in the evolving catalogue of The Clews Brothers, with the potential to appeal to long-term fans and new listeners alike!
