A remixed oldie. Warning: The lyrics of this song contain depictions of interpersonal violence and suicide. That said: Hello… Glad you dropped by. Since I have been busy gardening lately, I haven’t been on SoundCloud all that much. But today… June 17th, it has been cold and rainy, with some snow (yes, snow!) predicted for tonight. So I have tarps and covers ready to go, to cover the frost sensitive plants. Years ago, when I first posted songs here, my exuberance often blinded me to just how bad those songs were. So I ended up posting and deleting songs all the time. Once a dude asked if I was using a mic, as the ‘white noise’ machine hiss of the HD was unbearable. He said it in the kindest of ways. I did end up getting a mic and also did a song thanking him. Other times, I used to introduce my songs with a deep, drawling voice. That was hilariously comedic. Another dude laughed so hard when I was first learning to sing. I posted a song with me warbling from baritone to high falsetto…. OMG. Later, I laughed too. People here were graciously patient and kind as I struggled to learn music way back when. Unlike a friend’s parents who chased him in an effort to take away his banjo and he never played music again. So thanks for bearing with me, as I test out vocal harmonies that really don’t work, or just wing a song, with no rhyme of reason. Or when I rant and howl about this or that. Because that kindness has allowed me to explore music in a way I never would have before.  Mark

Letting Go (Demo)

For this song I used the desperately beautiful old melody from a song called Barbara Allen.  I first became aware of the song from the  Alistair Sim (for me, the best) version of A Christmas Carol: Scrooge. 

For the lyrics I broadly took inspiration from the romantic sub-plot of the same film and wrote from Scrooge's perspective... one of roads not taken and love lost.
