Music from the Detroit brothers  Bobby Hackney, Jr. on vocals and bass, Dannis Hackney on drums,  David Hackney, the visionary founder/guitar player along with Bobbie Duncan, dynamic guitarist out of New York.

Death from DETROIT

The very first studio recording of the the Hackney brothers, David, Dannis and Bobby. Recorded at United Sound studios as the band RockFire Funk Express. 1973 Detroit Michigan. RockFire Funk Express became Death at the end of 1973. This obscure single was released on Jack White's Thirdman Record Label and is currently available on Thirdman Records.

The song that started it all in Detroit. Originally released in 1976 on the original 45 that has become a classic. The original recording from United Sound studio in Detroit Michigan. Written by David and Bobby Hackney. Performed by Death in 1975.

Keep On Knocking

Track featured on the Death "Spiritual Mental Physical" LP. Written by David Hackney. Recorded at United Sound, and featuring brother Bobby on bass in Detroit 1976. Quiet and reflective, yet full of fire. David presented many styles of Rock guitar playing that reflected his array of inner moods and feelings. This tracks represents one of his finest.

New Death song from the Detroit archive addresses the environmental and cultural challenges that have crossed over from generation to generation and have come to fruition in today's present society. Global climate changes, social  and cultural stumbling blocks, world leaders in disarray, and the dissolution of dreams once hoped for that are proven lies or were lost. The resounding theme of the song  as quoted in the lyrics: "We've taken from this world, now it's time to give it back." All conveyed in that Rockin' Detroit-Rock sound.

While RockFire Funk Express never released any music while they were officially a band, in 1973 they recorded a two-song single at United Sound Systems, a legendary Detroit studio that recorded everyone from John Coltrane, John Lee Hooker, the MC5 and countless others. The a-side "People Save the World" is a propulsive, socially-conscious, exercise in primitive funk rock. The b-side shares its title with the band's name and is a breezy, easy-going instrumental, weirdly at odds with its name. These songs have sat in the can for over 40 years and were all-but-forgotten until the band that RockFire later morphed into, Death, became a cause-celebre in the punk community as early progenitors of the style with the 2009 release (comprised of recordings made in 1974)... For the Whole World to See. In conjunction with the release of the stellar A Band Called Death documentary film Third Man is finally unleashing these songs on the funk-thirsty public. The Hackney Brothers David, Dannis and Bobby are finally getting their due.
