There's a bit of a story to Side A. In 1996, JD Twitch released a 12" by Manchester's Bryn Jones aka Muslimgauze on his then label Pi Recordings. He also, along with a friend, arranged Muslimgauze's first and only Scottish live performance (attended by 6 people). Around that time, Jones, sadly no longer with us and one of the most prolific musicians ever to exist sent Twitch multiple CD-Rs of unreleased material, including the track featured here. He said he had made this track in 1985, and there is no reason to doubt his word although also no way to prove this is true, but we are going to accept his word for it which means that it could be said Jones pre-empted UK Hardcore around 5 years before anyone else. This is made all the more remarkable by the fact that he never used samplers but rather worked extensively with tape loops. The track has been very slightly edited by Twitch to make it a little more club playable. Twitch called in German breakbeat expert and all round tip top producer Victor Shan to remix it and Gerd Janson then asked to join the party too. They turn in a modern twist on UK Hardcore / Rave (via Deutschland) with hoovers set to stun. They also did a more late night hoover free mix which is only available digitally.

On the AA side, we are delighted to welcome the debut release from yet more mysterious Italians; the male/female duo that is Underspreche. "Flowers From The Lake" is based around a sample taken (with permission)  from field recordings of the Mukunguni tribe in Kenya and released by Honest Jon's Records. It weaves it into a deeply psychedelic techno track with an extended mind warping outro. Underspreche also give us "Naked" an exquisite hypno techno track that while clinical and precise manages to exude a feeling of warmth so often missing in modern techno.

Yoshihiro Sawasaki – Neocrystal - MOMArchives 

The Amsterdam based Modern Obscure Music label launches a new sub-division named MOMArchives. 
MOMArchives is a reissue label that will focus on electronic music. All releases will be available on vinyl and also digitally. 

The first release is Neocrystal by Japanese producer Yoshihiro Sawasaki. It is a fantastic slice of mid 90s Japanese Ambient Techno that needs to be heard by a larger audience. Yoshihiro Sawasaki is a Kyoto based producer who has released music under aliases such as Naturally Gushing and Doctor YS & the Cosmic Drunkards on labels like Sublime Records, Apollo Records and V2. Neocrystal was originally released on Sublime Records back in 1994. Sublime Records is an important label in the history of Japanese electronic music. The imprint has released music by domestic artists such as Susumu Yokota and Ken Ishii, as well as foreign talent such as Global Communications. 

The B Side to Neocrystal is Magic Dome. This was licensed to Dave Angel’s instalment of the legendary X-Mix series on Studio K7! 
The first MOMArchives release begins with the ‘On The Beach’ mix of Neocrystal. It is a dreamy ambient track with gorgeous key washes and reverberating synthetics. It is followed by Magic Dome, a spacey keyed cut with bright synth play, subtle percussion and hypnotic key work. This is a wonderful archive release from Yoshihiro Sawasaki and it is a great start for MOMArchives.

1. Desigs:
poema de Kavafis traduït per Carles Riba sobre els futurs avortats, els somnis capats, els desigs morts. En un escenari buit, el poema ressona, penjat en el temps. Com punyalades de realitat, apareixen veus que l’harmonitzen. Desigs expressa la fragilitat del temps i la solitud de la veu poètica.

2. Peproteico:
Postludi de Desgis on s’hi imprimeix el procés de gravació i producció d’Intercede Pro Nobis. Les veus samplejades, amb glissandos bjorkians, recorden les harmonies de Desigs mentre es va desplegant un viatge acústic pels escenaris i records del propi procés creatiu, com un joc de textures sonores.

3. Tres morillas
Tres Morillas és una cançó popular del segle XV que es va recollir al cancionero de palacio, bastament tocada en molts estils. Vam decidir fer-ne una versió després d’haver-la escoltat per bulerías cantada pel cantaor Arcangel. Los Nerobambola van rizar el rizo amb els samples de la percussió i l’explosió final del tema. 

4. Christos
És una cançó del rebetiko que vam sentir del Prodromos Tsaousakis i la Marika Ninou. Les frases de la melodia són molt allargades i sembla que no s’hagin d’acabar mai, que t’hagin de portar cada vegada més endins del pou. La lletra, en grec, parla d’un home molt ebri que balla en una taberna mentre sent el Christos tocant el bouzouki. Es mareja, perd l’equilibri, i va arribant a la tristesa més profunda de la seva ànima. Entre les quatre parets de la sala de gravació i a base d’anar cantant reiteradament la melodia, també vam arribar a connectar amb alguna cosa molt fosca.

5. Infans qui nascitur
Melodia de Chela, cançó tradicional georgiana que vam sentir del Hamlet Gonashvili. La lletra va arribar per una altra banda, era una idea que va sortir en una classe de filosofia fa molt temps, i que vam desenvolupar en tres versos després d’haver sentit la melodia georgiana. Amb el que deien els versos que vam escriure, podria haver estat un mantra o bé una dita popular. Vam provar de casar melodia i lletra en català, en castellà, i també en llatí. Aquesta última llengua va semblar una bona codificadora de la idea primera, i així la cançó Chela va quedar deslligada del seu context original.

I patched this up with my baby daughter strapped to my breast, sleeping. When I recorded the Rhodes parts, she sat next to me and banged the keys. My wife supplied the the countermelody in the middle. Its a family song.
