This week on Topshelf we're overjoyed to have with us Bristol based Soul, Funk & Disco DJ, Beavs.

With an undeniable ear for a groove, Beavs has been releasing mixes for over a year now with no signs of slowing down. In this short time she's already spun her gold on Loose FM, TLCFM, Vandelay Radio and Void Radio with her blend of international disco, 80's soul, Jazz and Reggae being a wonderfully digestible pairing for any radio station.

She brings a unique heat to the dancefloor and plays with an infectious energy and spirit, seamlessly serving up smooth grooves that blend boogie, soul, funk, house, gospel, disco, reggae, highlife, afrobeat, MPB, jazz - and everything in between - from across the globe. A core member of Bristol's Void radio team, she's been making her mark on community radio stations from UK's Loose FM, Balamii, Noods, Vandelay and Australia's 94.1fm, as well as holding down gigs with Funkelectric, Bath Carnival's Bacana Funk, Guava Jamz, Through The Noise and Westival, plus iconic venues like The Marble Factory, Lakota, Lost Horizon and London's Cafe 1001.

Released on my own label, With A Little Help Of A Friend Records, this concept EP was created entirely from my bicycle using AI. Inspired by cycling around the world, the motion, rhythm, and atmosphere of the journey are captured throughout the tracks. The culture of cycling—from the 90s to today—served as a major muse, merged with electronic sounds influenced by many of my favorite musicians. The result is a fusion of inspirations reflecting both the landscapes traveled and the evolving sonic ideas along the way.

I was lucky enough to spend 10 days at the wonderful Mareh festival in Bahia, Brasil over New Year. It was an amazing time spent with old friends, new friends and in my opinion some of the best DJs around. 

The festival is set in Boipeba in Bahia and the parties are thrown on boats, beaches and in the jungle by the Mareh posse who really know how to make a party tick. In my opinion it is one of the best festivals you will ever come across.

This mix is inspired by those people, those times and the music I played and heard while on the Island.
