First off, thank you, thank you, thank you Do LaB for bringing me back to Coachella.  Jesse, love you brother.  Gotta be honest, I think this is my favorite mix yet.  I’ll let you judge that.  I took this one on a very personal journey and tribute through my 35 years of being on this earth loving music.  From some of the jams I groove’d to in the 80’s as a kid, to bangers I head banged, skateboarded, and made out to in the early 90’s, to the street and underground rhythm I started to dance (and breakdance) to in the late 90’s, to friends and damn good musicians and producers from the 2000’s to now, LA to the Bay and beyond.  G’N’F’N’R is my all time, #1 rock band, hands down, and I’m not ashamed to admit i dropped everything out there this year to see them two weekends in a row, front row.  A lot of this set selects were tributes to talented musicians who played our Do Lab stage and other Coachella stages this year, but more importantly, those Legends and Gods who’s passed away far too early.  RIP Nick ‘Pumpkin' Alvarado, Phife Dawg, Prince, Bowie, Biggie, Jam Master Jay, Big L, Eazy-E, Tupac, and MJ.  You all have been an unbelievable inspiration, heart beat, and fancy footwork steps to me throughout my time here, whether you knew it or not.  Enjoy!!  :)

A collaborative project between Rub'n'Tug's Thomas Bullock (who also
records as Bobby Marie and Map of Africa for WWW) and Eddie Ruscha (who
spent time in Medicine, Maids of Gravity and Future Pigeon). "The Rose"
is simply one of the most splendid tracks of the summer. Opening with a
mélange of bells and infinitely sustained piano chords that might be
out of a Pharaoh Sanders early '70s jazz effort, and adding on a guitar
lick that percolates like Mr. Coffee, it only takes off from there.
Once Ruscha's voice comes in talking about "electric shadow, a full
moon in my bed," the song elevates somewhere between spiritual jazz, a
bananas disco dance floor cut and the Alan Parsons Project. The piano
stutters, the bass slides down and then the whole thing bursts forth
anew with ping-ponging squelches and other sorts of analog orgasmic
madness,making for one of the most satisfying 12-inches of the year.
